| Slasher Movies -- post your favorites As I am expanding my DVD collection I find myself yearning for the good old early 80s/late 70s slasher flicks. The ones that are always rated "R", have nudity, gore, and a killer stalking a camp/town/college/group of locals etc. So, I want to hear about your favorites. I'll post a few of mine: Obviously no collection would be complete without Texas Chainsaw Massacre (though a bit before its time), Friday the 13th (part 1) and Halloween (1 and 2). Though I normally detest slasher sequels, I think Halloween 1 and 2 worked reasonably well together. Some other mentionables would include My Bloody Valentine and Happy Birthday to Me. There's so many more out there that I may have seen but can't recall how good or simply have never seen. For example, Pieces, Sorority House Massacre, Cheerleading Camp, etc. Name em and tell me what you think of them (keeping in mind this is genre specific, I know it's not high quality film art but it's entertaining to me). |

| Black Christmas isnt a slasher movie - but its virtually the same thing. a guys goes around killing people, your always trying to figure out who did it - but in this case - they use shadows, and creepy voices and such to make u scared - which is a lot better imo.its rated r - theres virtually no blood in it. btw the ending fucking owns. edit: i forgot to add this was like the first movie of its kind - inspiring movies like texas chainsaw and holloween and so on. im not sure if you can call From Hell a slasher movie. by slasher i think of a movie with a guy who goes around killing people mainly. anyways its a really good movie with an actually really good plot - which most dont have at all. American Psycho - contrary to many people,is an excellent movie. it uses a lot of satire and such - so you could look at this movie as somewhat scary or a good black comedy. i saw they made some dipshit sequel, which looks fucking idodic. also, if your interested in the movie id check out the book. the book is extremely detailed - some parts almost made me gag. |

+5 Internets | Let's not forget the godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, who made in 1963 a budget-less movie titled Blood Feast. It's a terrible movie but at some point it reaches the kind of naive beauty of some silent movies... The totaly odd Bad Taste and the hillarious Brain Dead from our friend Peter "LotR" Jackson are also pretty impressive for over the top gore action (nothing like killing zombies with a landmower...). But these are more "gore" movies than slashers if under this label we put movies where the plot is centered on some random screaming people fighting one killer. Fitting that category I enjoy the self-reflexive Wes Craven's New Nightmare where the actors are haunted by the characters they played in Nightmare on Elm Street...
