| Good Westerns After playing the game Gun lately, I have wanted to watch some good western movies, but I dont know of any good ones. I dont want to see any stupid ones, like brokeback mtn crap, and dont really want to watch the really really old cheesy ones. Anyone have any suggestions for some good action ones? |

| 2 newer good westerns that i have seen are The Unforgiven and Open Range. both are very good, unforgiven is alittle older from the early 1990's, Open Range has one of the best western gun fights i have seen. some good older ones i have seen are mostly clint eastwood like The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Good The Bad and The Ugly and High Plains Drifter. Also check out The Man from Snowy River, its not a gunfighter movie, but a decent movie if i remember right. |

| A lot of the old Clint Eastwood westerns are excellent if you like gritty, blood and sweat westerns. Most of the John Wayne movies are pretty soft-core compaired to Clint but they're generally pretty decent. Any western's made in the last ohhhh, 26 years sucks balls though, except Blazing Saddles. No one has been able to capture the feel of the old, good westerns lately. I think it's because the actors all look like they've been sitting in an air conditioned trailor between shoots. |

+1 Internets | I second The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; one of my favourite movies. And yes, practically anything Clint Eastwood would do. You may even want to try your hand at some of the old western TV shows. Rawhide, Lone Ranger, etc. that is, if you can put up with the "action" choreography for that time. But the story usually takes over. Then again, there's always Deadwood. If you want to watch something that has to do with westerns, watch Deadwood. You should not be disappointed (that is unless you're going in with random expectations). |

| The Man With No Name trilogy is a sure fire pleaser, but my favorite Clint western is Unforgiven. Silverado is pretty good, as is Tombstone. A couple good "western-themed" movies are Maverick and Dances With Wolves. |

+3 Internets | The Man who Shot Liberty Valance. Probably my favorite western. Lee Marvin, John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart. Can't find a much better cast than that. It's not particularly full of action, but the story is great and there is very little cheese. Oh yeah, it's also black and white, but don't let that put you off. Another vote for Unforgiven. Not only one of the best westerns I've seen, but one of my favorite movies overall. I also second Maverick if you're up to something a little more offbeat, I absolutely love that movie. Despite how much I DESPISE Kevin Costner, I have to admit Open Range was pretty good as well. |

+4 Internets | Quigley Down Under is one of my favorite westerns. Cowboy good with long distance rifle travels to Australia. Also enjoy John Wayne movies, although some might find them kinda cheesy. Some of my favorites are Rio Bravo, and Rio Lobo (same premise in both movies, just with different characters). The Shootist (his last film about an aging gunslinger) and Big Jake which is my favorite of all his movies. The Magnificient Seven is a western take on The Seven Samurai. Has Yul Bryner, Steven McQueen, Charles Bronson. Have to add another +1 to Clint Eastwood. I love the Outlaw Josey Wales, and of course the Man with No Name Trilogy, but my favorite of his is High Plains Drifter. Just some more to add also: Young Guns (1 and 2) Legends of the Fall Last Man Standing (same story as A Fist Full of Dollars, and not as good, but i still enjoyed it)

+19 Internets | Anything with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood is a safe bet. As others said, Open Range is actually really good, first movie I can remember where Kevin Costner isn't playing the role of "Kevin Costner". Geronimo is a pretty decent western as well, Robert Duvall is in that one as well as Gene Hackman. I didn't like Dances with Wolves, personal preference I guess. and of course, watch fucking Deadwood you hooplehead cocksucker. |

+16 Internets | Watch Yojimbo by Akira Kurosawa. It's not a "western western", but it served as the template for alot of future westerns. As you are watching it, it will feel like a western, but thats because Hollywood and the like ripped off his style after he made it (They also did the same with 7 Samurai, etc) ;p A Fistful of Dollars and Last Man Standing are remakes of Yojimbo, btw. Most of the good westerns have already been mentioned, but I'll toss in another nod for Deadwood. Those who don't like Deadwood, suck cock by choice! This season especially kicks major ass and it's setting up for a really brutal finale when that shipment of "bricks" shows up.
