| I thought the book series kicked ass so far. Still waiting on Book 3, but overall this will be a decent flick if you (obviously) don't go in expecting it to copy the book word for word. Seeing as how Galbatorix, (John Malkovitch sp whatev) doesn't even have a spoken role until possibly Book 3, anything said by him in the movie will probably be created by the directors. If you like LOTR, you will probably like this. |

| Tolkien hardly invented all of that stuff. Myth has been around for thousands and thousands of years. Besides this, I haven't read Eragon but I've heard complaints about it riping off Star Wars something awful.

Back to Eragon though, I don't know about the ripping off Star Wars just yet. It's all assumed that in Book 3, you might find out something retardedly dumb, such as the main bad guy being the main hero's father and such, but it hasn't been said yet. If Paolini really do go that route, i'll be seriously pissed off. From what i've heard, (as I haven't read them...yet) the beginning to Eragon is a straight up rip off of the beginning of Wheel of Time. It's not as mature as some of the current genre's are, as I believe it was inteded for children-older children rather than adults. It has it's moments though. It kinda grabs your interest in the same way Harry Potter did for me. I know, Harry Potter is a children's book, but a shitton of adults had read the series, and it just left me wondering 'why'. After reading it, I semi-understand them. They got a decent line up of actors for the movie, and the sets look pretty amazing. It won't be as good as the book is, but when is a movie ever?

| Anyone mind giving a small background on what the story is? All I know is that it has Dragon Riders so Im gonna be seeing it for sure eitherway. But the books sound like an interesting read. May go out and get a copy of them. |

I remember reading in an old school Norse Mythology book about the black dwarves, evil dudes most of em, and then discovering the Nordic Black Dwarves' names were the same as the dwarves in the Hobbit. Tolkien is hardly the definitive creator of all things elf/dwarf/orc. He made them popular, quite so, and yes, it may be hard for people to leave the shadows of the mighty LOTR pinnacle, but prolonging a falsity doesn't help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gandalf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_dwarves

| Not saying tolkien invented any of it, but the first book does just feel like a big rip-off fest of other books, but I enjoyed it enough to buy Eldest and will most likely see the movie at the theatre. And I hope A Song of Ice and Fire is never made into a movie series unless Martin gets a billion dollar budget and free reign to do whatever the fuck he wants. |

| The first book was ok. I have not read the 2nd. The author of the books is really young and it shows through his immature writing style. The first book also reeked of Lotr and Wot, and was a pretty cookie cutter book. You can also tell that the book was targeted at a younger audience. All in all not a bad read but not fantastic. |

| The following post contains a bunch of spoilers from the second book.... you've been warned. .\ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Quote:
Actually, at the end of the second book (after spending most of the book in the woods with a century-old wise man learning how to feel the force of live around you), Eragon actually does find out that the evil King Galbatorix (or whatever) is indeed his father (no.. I'm not kidding). Not sure how anyone could've missed THAT reading the second book. Also, the first book is about a farm boy who's step parents get slaughtered by the evil guys army (because they are looking for him), who discoveres he has a bunch of inner mojo thats been gone from the world since the old Dragonknights were hunted down to the last by the evil, evil King in black armor (who was once the brightest and most promising of that knightly order) . The only other surviving Dragonknight is the wierd old guy of the village that noone takes serious and who will train Eragon up until his death at the end of book 1. Oh.. and they also rescue a princess from the dungeons of the evil king. Not sure where anyone could find Wheel of Time in that... all I found was alot of paste© from star wars with a dragon thrown in for good measure.
