Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma

I finally managed to get a copy of this classic. It certainly was one of the most inspiring movies I've ever seen, one of the best movies by far.

Has anyone else here had the opportunity to enjoy this work of art?
Which were your favorite scenes? Did you manage to watch it all in one sitting?

I'll watch it with my sister when she comes around next time, that will be so much fun!

This is the movie version of Sade's 120 days of sodom, is it not? Someone made a post about acquiring the book a month or two ago, I looked into it and ended up picking it up. Reading it now, not too far in. Disturbing to say the least. Did you find the movie to stay true to the book?

Heh. This is probably one of my favorite movies EVER actually. It's beautifully depraved, artsy and well written. It's a shame it gets written off as a "gore" and "exploitation" movie. Pier Paolo Pasolini is a great underwritten director.

My favorite movie was probably the end, when the libertines were rotating their little torture rounds. When the camera zoomed out on the last one while he was watching the binoculars, along with the beautiful music playing.. made is one of my favorite moments.

P.S. This movie is loosely based on the book, it's a modern setting, and much tamer then the book.

Some of the best parts of the book were taken in though. It's a 1944 setting as opposed to late 18th century Marquis de Sade was using.

Pasolini also didn't use the hags (Fanchon etc); just the 4 storytellers (Duclos, Martaine, Chanville and Desgranges) to watch over the children.

and of course he can't use all 600 passions, he just selected some of the most interesting ones

I wouldn't call it my favourite movie ever, but it is definately a very good film. Sadly I had heard a lot of things about it, so I was expecting to watch something very violent and gruesome, which is not at all what the movie is about. So somehow, I was a little disapointed, expecting too much out of it.
I think I would have liked it much more not knowing anything at all about it.
