| Hustle & Flow So.. I downloaded this movie the other day as a joke. I watched it late last night. I was expecting a really stupid movie about some rapper......... but I was completely wrong. It was actually a *really* well done movie. Not an original story at all, but really well done. I checked it out on Rotten Tomatoes, and it's at like 82% (for comparison, DaVinci Code is like 20% or some shit). Anyone else saw it?

+2 Internets | Incredibly good film. You really don't need to like hip hop or know anything about it to enjoy the movie, either. To clarify for the skeptics at home: the story is an existential crisis. Terence Howard plays a southern pimp who realizes his life means nothing. He contributes nothing to the world and he cannot live like that. If you have ever felt like you are not getting what you expected out of life, or that you are somehow trapped in a shitty place, you will like this movie. It's very satisfying and well worth the two hours. |

| Still can't believe Three 6 pulled the award over that fucking movie. I grew up about 60 miles from Memphis; their live shows were absolutely ridiculous. Like 20 people up on stage hollering basically nothing nonstop and they've been shut down before for chicks gettin' it on stage... I think at least two members of the group are in jail right now as a matter of fact. If I can I'll dig up this old DVD a friend gave me of like, a sort of Memphis rap underground reality show where some guy ran around the town for a couple of weeks and got vids/interviews most of the city's rap community. In one clip, they've got Crunchy Black (he's older, like near 50 now I think) doing this whole speel talking about how he's going to kill various bitches, who's gonna die, etc. all while at this crazy crackhouse with little kids running around in the background. For damn near 20 minutes toward the end of this segment he holds a gun to the camera and threatens anyone that will fuck with him. This is a man that just won an oscar. |
