I have no idea how I feel about this. However, please note that Spielberg's name gets thrown around as a possible director get things greenlighted, then he takes a backseat and puts his name on as producer quite often. See: Memoirs of a Geisha. Additionally, it only says Sony is considering it, not if Spielberg is considering it. Since he's supposed to be directing Indiana Jones and his Abrahama Lincoln projects, on top of producing 3-4 other movies (not counting executive producer credits, as that most likely entails little to no work on his part), I doubt he'd be able to do Angels & Demons in time to capitalize on the hype of Da Vinci Code.

A&D was a much more interesting and engaging read than Davinci code. Even though the dialogue was still horrible, the history and characters were much more vivid. I'm very interested in seeing who they cast as the Chamerlango.

As Zinke mentioned I don't think his current schedule fits a directing of Angels and Demons at this point. And I doubt the owners wanna wait 2-3 years before they even start taking a look at it cause then it'll be another 1,5 year before it releases at its best.

Anyway, I actually think Spielberg could pull this one off. It's sorta the stuff (adventurous) I think he likes, persons being rather simple and limited in numbers as well.

They should make Digital Fortress into a movie. That was his best book.

The odds of Spielberg doing this are about equal to the odds of Uwe Boll making a good movie. But I will say that if he did do this it is possible it would be good.

Camerlengo.

Aside from being based on another showcase of Dan Brown's writing skills, Angels and Demons has a really awful, unbelievable ending involving a helicopter. If that was reworked, eh, I guess it could do well if the right movie folks were involved.

I haven't read this yet but I think that Deception Point would be a good movie.

On the Spielberg note, he does quite a bit of "executive producing" =p

You guys were high if you think Digital fortress and Deception Point were good. The only thing that made me finish them was the fact i was in iraq and had nothing else to read.

I liked Deception Point, but Dan Brown needs to work on the way he ends the books... I find all of them end rather badly - in Deception Point the entire last scene on the platform seemed just stupid.

Beyond that much of the suspense comes from not knowing who does what and in a movie, it's hard to have someone do something and not reveal who that someone is

No? There are dozens of solutions that have allready proved to be potent to do that in movies. There are also hundreds of ways to fail to do that properly, but that does not make it "hard". The director only needs to have a brain that somewhat functions.
