| Spoiler filled idea thingy:Re: magneto regaining his powers, this was the first time I believe in the series they had gone into the different power classes of mutants. Since Jean Grey Was class 5, i think it's safe to assume magneto was a class 4. It's possible that Mutants of such a strong mutation can overpower the serum, eventually. Or mabye I am just babbleing. |

| Okay so I'm going to add my review to the other ones on the thread now that I've seen the movie.. SPOILERS FOLLOW (HIGHLIGHT TO READ) : I can understand why some people felt the directing was choppy because in the first half hour of the movie you get sent in many directions really fast, first 20 years in the past, then 10 years, then you go to X-School then Cyclops at Alkali Lake.. after that though it does get better, even if some people pointed out the obvious overlooking of travel time between California and Xavier's School. Then again, in a 106 minute movie, you're not going to show it every time a characters takes the bus or hops onto a bike. The introduction with young(er) Xavier and Magneto was very nicely done (especially their younger appearance, it was quite amazing to see). The sequence with Archangel as a young teenager cutting off his wings was nice too, but overall the Archangel character was underused considering he was announced as the "replacement" of Cyclops in the X-Team. Cyclops has never been very present in the movies, and you can count the number of his lines in the earlier movies on the fingers of one hand, but his death was pretty sad considering you can see he's been feeling tortured by Jean's mental calling for a long time. I hear the actor playing him needed to leave the movies to focus on his part in Superman Returns, so I guess that was the best way to get rid of Cyclops and also add a new dimension to the Phoenix character. Beast was convincing and nicely done I thought, especially his fighting was quite brutal and savage, not expected from the tuxedo-wearing diplomat seen earlier in the movie. Pleasant surprise. Wolverine was the usual role, Hugh Jackman went a bit heavily on the one-liners during the Danger Room simulation but it got better progressively. I generally despise Halle Berry but I thought she was pretty good in the movie. Her speech about the X-Gene not being a disease was quite annoying (how many times did she say "We're not sick!"?) but I thought her acting as the successor of Xavier after he's gone was quite well done. Speaking of Xavier, the whole scene at Jean Grey's house and the mental struggle between Professor X and Phoenix was really amazing. The other mutants fighting were nice too, especially Juggernaught uppercutting Woverine through the ceiling and then receiving him with a nice kick to the stomach, but Phoenix and Xavier stole the show completely. Although I had heard the rumors that Xavier would die, the manner of his death was quite unexpected and shocking, and it definately changed the way I saw Jean Grey. In a way, it made me realize Jean Grey was gone for good. The scene where Phoenix awakens in the X-Lab was well done too, and the actress showed some very nice emotions when she begs Logan to kill her before she kills more people. The "sex scene" was unexpected, but who is going to be angry about seeing some more Famke flesh? Since we're on the topic of flesh, the "curing" of Mystique was also expected (though I thought it would be voluntary, considering in X1 and X2 she seems unhappy about having to hide from mankind all the time..). Magneto's betrayal towards her came as a surprise, but I nearly thought he'd have her killed once she became a simple human, and I think his sparing her life was his way to show gratitude for all the times she saved his magnetic ass. The explaination about Jean Grey and Phoenix being split personnalities was nice much more believable (in the context of the movies) than the space entity explaination from the comics. Maybe they could have shown her using her powers to do wrong in her youth, to show that there was a struggle inside her before Xavier put his mental locks onto her mind. Ah well.. Juggernaught was ... well, he was the Juggernaught. He destroyed things, he had a few funny lines and he wasn't seen being vaporized by Phoenix so it's safe to assume he's still alive somewhere under the Alcatraz rubble. Calysto was okay, though the super-speed effects were a bit cheesy; the red-hot lip piercing after Storm fries her up was a nice and funny touch. Pyro was his usual cocky and arrogant self, and I cheered inside when Iceman went deep freeze and kicked his ass. Quill was quite lame really, and Arclight was looking so corny that most people were wondering out loud "Is that a boy or a girl?" whenever she was on screen. Shadowcat was pretty good, but the teenage drama between Iceman, Rogue and her could have been minimized a lot. It only made Iceman look like a cheating prick and added really nothing to the story except make him feel guilty for making Rogue take the cure.. Anyway.. Magneto was very nicely used at the beginning when he crushes the cars on the Mystique convoy, and the scene with the Golden Gate Bridge was really amazing, but after that he went downhill as he could do nothing against the plastic-equipped troops and the whole "What have I done?" line was not the best. The loss of his powers came as a complete surprise though, I thought the X-Men were going to use the cure on Pyro for a while. About the ending.. I wish Rattner had taken a few extra minutes to show the President thanking the X-Men who defended his troops and the laboratories personnally, maybe rewarding them with some medal to show he really is grateful and accepts them as full citizens in Xavier's School, though I suppose them showing Beast as the representant of the USA as a whole does that, in a way. Rogue taking the cure was not a surprise, but considering the Magneto ending, is it really a happy ending for her? At least they'll probably have time to get nookie once or twice before she gets her life-sucking abilties back to "normal". Magneto getting his powers back slowly at the end was really a great hope for the future of the series, as I for one did not want to see the X-Men movies end there so soon. The second ending after the credits was even better, and I was really glad to see Professor X still alive, though the mystery remains about whether he'll be back to the school, and how.. Overall, a good movie following the two prequels. It is noticeable that Synger did not direct this movie, as his finesse isn't quite there, but the many many mutant powers and the big "plot shocks" make up for these weaknesses. I recommend seeing it in the theater to take the full blast of the battles. EDIT : changed the names of the mutants I got wrong. Damn credits got me confuzzled.

| Very nice review Runnen. You said it better than I could. On a side note though, who you thought was Psylocke, was actually Calypso, and Spike was actually Quill. Althought i've never heard of Quill before, it's how that guy is listed in the Cast, so oh well. |

As a side note, Leech (the kid in the movie that everyone's after) was actually taken from an issue of X-Factor rather than X-Men.

Didn't nightcrawler ask her why she didn't stay in disguise all the time, to which she replied, "because we shouldn't have to", or something to that effect. It was pretty fucked up how magneto just left her. I'll admit I laughed when she ratted him out. Overall I liked it. Wasn't quite what I was expecting but I was happy about the twist at the end leaving it open for more movies in the series.

| UHh.. super speed girl was Calypso? Wtf, I don't remember Calypso having those powers (Calypso as in, the head of the Morlocks. Or was that Callisto? fuck, I lose 10 nerd points) Vorph, ah I see. I always remember X-factor as being the Havok/Cable teams. Forgot that it was originally the X-men who left the team when it got bloated or whatever. Psylocke was listed in the credits, which made both me and the buddy next to me go 'huh?'. I guess she was a student in Prof X's class. She's one of my favorite mutants though, so it felt like a tease. I had to imdb the girl who played shadowcat, because she was hot in a cute way, but I had no idea if she was like 14 or just looked young. Was sort of awkward, especially since the Iceman guy looks 23ish, and she looks 15. Turns out she's 19, woo! My pedo status = negative. She's 5 feet tall though, which I guess is partially why she looks so young. Cameron Bright (kid who played Leech) being 13 and taller probably didn't help. Ellen Page, if anyone missed her name. edit: oh ffs, iceman dude is 27 and rogue actress is 24, no wonder it looked weird to me. Last edited by Zinke : 05-26-2006 at 05:32 PM. |

| Shoot the writers, the script and plot sucked for the most part. Directing-wise, you can only do so much when your writers botch the script for a movie that should be epic and is instead reduced to abysmal formulaic classroom storytelling. That being said, he did the best he could, although I did feel that the his camera choices and angles for a few of the scenes weren't the best they could be for the dialogue. Action scenes were superb, computer graphics were excellent, but it's still the only real reason they left you with to see the film. Mutant powers, mutant battles, things blow up, yay. The only thing we can pray for, is that this abonimation really could only be viewed as a hiccup. Almost everything, through exceedingly thin plotholes, can be fixed and we can move on and have a normal sane X4. Last scene before the credits, and the short clip after the credits helps do that. Elements of the story that weren't explained, scenes/events that weren't shown can help the rest. In the end, the fact that it was THAT horrible, may be beneficial to creating future movies. |

| minor spoilers disappointed that Collosus didn't go toe to toe with juggernaut. Although kitty pryde ending up being pretty own. At first, when Wolverine was like 'hold this line', I didn't see how she'd help much there. Or any of them for that matter, since they had very little area effect firepower outside of iceman or storm. Yes, that was geeky. But, had the brotherhood been even slightly non-retarded, could have owned the x-men easily. Scrub mutants or not. Arclight alone could have knocked them all over, then pyro and magneto pulled their super combo attack. Anyone else think of Xmen 2 - rise of apocalypse when that happened? I kept thinking 'combo attack points' |
