Just eat up 20 minutes of the film on something a good part of the intended audience (as in anyone with 10 bucks to spend on a ticket) won't care about?
Think of how much less awesome LotR would have been if Peter Jackson had decided to start midway through because he didn't want to eat up time explaining everything.

At one point in history the backstory was the actual story. Wanting to skip ahead is cheating and dumbing down characters and simplifying the plot to do so really offends me. Starting out in Cybertron with some giant robot fights that lead to Earth would be damn cool. There isn't anything wrong with telling that story.

Yes that would be damn cool. But here's what I think. First how long would that suck up in terms of length and budget? And secondly while it would be cool in itself its only damn cool to the existing fans. Eventually you have to make the decision of how much backstory you want to focus on versus spending the majority of the time fleshing out the main plot. I understand your LOTR points but it actually backs me up somewhat. For a trilogy with 3 hour long segments, there were things that were left out or mildly shortcutted for pace and length.

That just made me remember Spiderman. I thought Peter made his own webshooters initially but in the movie they were part of his body. Maybe they could have spent some time showing him researching how to make it and the actual construction...but shit why deal with that aspect and do what they did? It was a change for sure. But for a 2 hour movie, it helped the pace, dumbed it down, and closed off the issue. I guess bottomline is while I am actually in your camp I know reality isn't going to allow for what the fans really want. In the end, I just know they'll dumb it down to most basic of movie goers.

So that particular Spider Man was from the Ultimate series and hence did not use constructed web shooters.

Much as in Ultimate Fantastic 4 they were all friends with Doom to start and involved in the same accident together.

Some images of the vehicle versions of some of the Transformers and some plot spoilers (some of which were mentioned on the first page of this thread, some not), so be careful.

"Brawl" looks badass. That "To Punish and Enslave" on the side of the police car + Decepticon logo is neat.

Best line in the Talkback, though.

"Too Soon!
It is sad that after the loss of Optimus Prime that we would consider making a campy exploitation of suffering that so many children experienced. "

lol

Although on the other side you have Star Wars where everyone loved the jump into the middle of the story without all the backstory, but thought the backstory was boring as hell. The best way to do it is have the thrown in character to follow all the events with (aka Luke Skywalker). Everyone else has a history and you learn that history with him. In Transformers it would be some young hero guy that teams up with them.

That already gives me a bad feeling. Not to be nitpicky, but if you're going to use real life events in the backstory of your plot, at least get the fucking facts right. Beagle 2 was NOT a rover, it had virtually no mobility whatsoever other than some little probe it could throw a few feet away and wiggle around. Why bother using facts if you're just going to get them wrong?

The teaser trailer for next summers 'Transformers' movie broke about an hour ago, and while the official site is getting killed right now, some prodigy was wise enough to load a copy onto YouTube. The quality is ungreat, but it's the best there is for now. All you really need to know is that it's directed by the great Michael Bay, who I have absolute confidence in. No one does summer spectacle better. I can only imagine how great 'X-Men' or 'Superman' would have been in his hands instead of boring ass Bryan Singers. Comparing Bay to Singer is like comparing Roy Jones Jr. in his prime to that kangaroo at the state fair. (that was a boxing analogy, by the way)
Is this sarcasm? Please tell me this is sarcasm. I feel sick.

is this guy insane or just trying to lick a script preview out of Bay's ass?
