This movie sounds fucking retarded.

Just don't do it. Donate the money it would take to make it to fucking charity or something.

Not trying to play devil's advocate or anything here, but I doubt Michael Bay had much, if anything, to do with the basic plot elements and concepts behind this movie.

The project had been developed, written, and ready to go for years before he was hired. The studio (Dreamworks at the time) had been looking for a for-hire director to come in and get it done. Their first choice was McG -- so be thankful, at least, that he didn't take the job. When he passed, they found some others, and eventually Michael Bay.

Don't get me wrong; I have no doubt that Bay will fuck it up some more during filming. But you can't necessarily blame him for any of the basic concepts and creative directions that were already in place before he got there.

Probably right :/ He was brought in late.

It's just disheartening that the dumb fucks in Hollywood have to muck around with classic stories so much and don't learn when Spiderman or LotR makes a gazillion dollars by staying close to the story, or at the very least the spirit.

Starcream is alleged to have but 2 lines in the movie, which is just like.."Wha?!"
Only hope is that the script is old that is getting reviewed.

I miss the good old days when only Disney would completly shred a story when making a movie out of it. =)

If the rumors are true then my mom would have made better decisions than these people. How hard is it to get this shit right? Everyone loves Transformers the way they are. Besides the CG and modernizing the vehicle forms, this should not be very challenging at all! You don't have to be very original to make huge amounts of money from a generation or two of people who watched Transformers growing up. They must be really arrogant to think they can make Optimus Prime or Bumblebee better, two characters that have stayed popular for 20 years. It's like they want to fail. This is a mystery to me! I'm just going to transform into apathy mode until a trailer comes out or something.

They aren't coming within 10 miles of having anything to do with G1 Transformers. Don't let them fool you. This shit isn't a Transformers movie. It's a movie inspired by the Transformers. Let's face it, fans want to see a G1 Transformers movie. You won't be getting it here pal. Here's the bottomline, they don't really think the G1 fans will be enough to make this into a cash cow - and they are right. They shooting for a 200 million dollar box office smash. They are going to dumb down the concept and make it appeal to the uneducated masses.

Henceforth if you keep what I just said in mind, you'll realize this could be the biggest disappointment in cinematic history. Or a fun summer flick. I'm with the G1 crowd. The foundation had been laid for an awesome live action movie via the 80s cartoon and anything else just won't fucking feel right. Period; no matter how good the movie is. I've gone to the official site often over the past few months and I read a lot of the "rumors" and supposed "announcements". Every single one that I have heard keeps knocking this movie down a peg. It makes me sad.

I'd imagine the success of the X-men movie killed a lot of the chance of the stupid changes being reverted :/

As this one guy said on that forum.

Quote:
BUT, there are things that the fans assumed the movie would get right;
- Prime would be a big red truck,
- Megatron would AT LEAST transform,
- Decepticons would be respected characters similar to the cartoon
- Bumblebee could talk,
- Cybertron is still there.

as i said already, i followed this movie from over 1 year

too bad i stoped to check the boards just in time to see the bad news

looks like you are right....they started this project saying it will be a g1 movie to get the fans and now they are changing the plans

after godzilla, here's another memory of my early years being crushed

So the basic premise and plot of a child's cartoon from 20 years ago is too "high concept" for the masses huh?

I don't disagree that changing key elements all over the place defeats the purpose of using an established license, and that the inner child in me is outraged. But I just found that quote hilarious.

Absolutely. The external conflict between the moral mechanized intelligences (Autobots) which are both a heroic boon to the crude meatbags of earth while at the same time drawing the ire of the amoral mechanized intelligences (Decepticons) to humans combined with the internal philosophical questioning of whether or not technological advance should be pursued at any price (should principles guide our actions like the Autobots, or should we slavishly pursue power like the Decepticons) is just too damn high falutin'. KEEP YOUR NERDY SHIT IN YOUR STAR TREK YOU FUGGIN NERDS. YOU CAIN'T TURN A TRUCK INTO A GUN AH'VE TRIED.

Like cartoons are not often complicated as fuck.

Go into your local gamestore on a Saturday at noon and start asking kids to explain the Yu Gi Oh cartoon to you. I hope you set aside a few hours.

It would be no difficulty at all to make a Transformers film that just didn't appeal to a mass market. It would end up alot like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with inside jokes and confusion and end up flopping.

We just went through 5 pages of the X-Men thread with posts related to "changes" to the X-Men lore to accommodate the plot. Do you really expect them to spend time fleshing out a back story to explain the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, show how they got to earth, and explain how they look like human machines? Just eat up 20 minutes of the film on something a good part of the intended audience (as in anyone with 10 bucks to spend on a ticket) won't care about?

The ones that do care are the G1 fans and unless you think "we" can single handedly make this into a summer blockbuster you're fucking nuts. Take a look at the various movie threads in the House that points out all the plot between said movie and printed material. DVC is another good example. We know all the small details about Transformers because as fans we've immersed ourselves in it. Stupid shit like Bumblebee using a laser rifle would be out of place to a fan. Why? Cause I can't remember he ever used a fucking gun in the cartoons. But you really think the average movie goer gives a rat ass about that?
