DVD "Time Machine" Review

Well I missed this in the theatres as like most people it just wasn't all that appealing from the trailers.

I rented the DVD and looked at the trailers as well.

Teaser trailer -- is a cheesy little joke trailer. It is cute and funny, but definately not in the spirit of the movie. I can see why this didn't stir up interest.

American Trailer -- Can you say over dramatic cheeseball? Luckily 2 of the most OVERDRAMATIC cheeseball crap were cut from the actual movie. "You must resist/fightback" and "I am your future."

International Trailer -- A little better at speaking to the actual movie, but ends once again on "I am your future" which just comes off as so cheesy and it's not even in the movie.

The Movie --

I have to say I was very, very impressed with this movie. I had no clue what to expect when my g/f came back from Blockbuster with this DVD. Now I want to start off by saying I can see why people who have read the book and seen the original movie might be a little miffed at a remake of such a movie, especially when it takes liberties with the story.

However, looking at it detached from its predecessors it is very incredible.

The level of quality of depicting a scene is very high. There are some very Spielberg-esque shots in this movie. Ontop of that I was blown away with the special effects. Not so much the morlocks, though, as I was really blown away with the aging process and the depiction of time passage outside of the Time Machine. A few of the special effects in a very specific scene you can see where Spielberg "borrowed" some ideas for Minority Report.

The costumes, sets, settings in this movie are all incredible.

As for the storyline I don't know really how to judge this. Simon Wells, the director, is the great grandson of HG Wells the original author of The Time Machine. The story is somewhat changed and taken a look at the same or similar occarances from a different perspective. In the end I really liked how it turned out.
