Silent Hill

I'm sure there's already a thread on the movie out there somewhere, but I'm making a new one anyway.

I'll start by saying that I've never played the games, except about half of SH4, because I hate consoles and the PC ports sucked prior to SH4. I knew about pyramid head and some of the other stuff, but any other game references were probably lost on me. The reason I went to the movie is because Christophe Gans directed it and Brotherhood of the Wolf is one of the top 5 movies of all time imo.

As horror movies go, it is extremely slow-paced. I won't go as far as to call it boring, but there were times when I wished something would fucking happen already. Fortunately, just about the time I'd start yawning, something did happen, so for the most part it was ok. I'm glad they went with an R rating, I can only imagine how much the movie would've sucked without the gore and the stuff too 'disturbing' for PG-13. The effects were excellent--not too much CGI other than the decay effect that everyone's seen in the preview.

The story itself was fairly confusing up until the big reveal. The way they wrapped things up in the town itself made up for the slow pace ten times over though. I don't want to spoil anything, but goddamn that owned. I was thinking pretty much the whole way through the movie that they could take the movie pretty much verbatim and make a game that would be just about the best survival/horror ever.

The last 30 seconds of the movie though--I have no fucking clue. Someone help me out here, because I just don't get it. It's not some lead-in to a sequel, it's just...WTF?

8/10.

If I've learned anything from SH 1, 2, and 4...it's that you should never go down a hole you find in the ground or in a wall. It just leads to trouble.

After reading a post on imdb that explained all the SH1-3 references in the movie, I understand it a bit better now. I didn't realize plot was that close to the games, they just sort of mashed all three games together into one movie.

Also, the general consensus on the last few seconds of the movie seems to be that (spoilers follow) Rose, Sharon, and Cybil (the cop) all died in the car/motorcycle accident and they are now a part of Silent Hill. I guess that makes sense, although it takes away from the ending in the church imo. I liked it better when I thought that the bitch-in-charge really got what was coming to her, but if she was already dead... meh.

Still love the overhead shot of the little girl dancing in a rain of blood after Christabella is ripped apart by barbed wire though, that's a classic right there.

Simple yes or no...

Will I leave this movie feeling sick inside?

I don't wanna drop 8 bucks unless I leave the theater feeling disgusted.

...wait a minute...

Visuals, Cinematography and acting aside- the most amazing part to me was the audio, the soundtrack and the way they scared you with noise rather than making you jump (again, 9 out of 10 times) was such a sweet experience.

I'd see it again for sure. 10/10, not much could have made it better.

7/10 or 8/10 from me. I liked it, but my woman was pretty bored. I thought the visuals, sounds, and music were all top notch. What lowered the score for me was some of the acting. The cop lady was just terrible IMO, it would have been much better if not for her. I also thought the girl was a weak actor but hey, she's a kid I guess.

Also I played the games very little, so I'd assume fans would love the movie. I'd recommend it.

Spoilers, don't highlight this k? : I agree with Vorph about the girl dancing in the rain of blood after the barbed wire tentacle rape scene, that was cool. I'm also glad this went rated R, this would have been so much weaker without all those really gorey scenes, and people being splattered with blood so much.

More spoiler >< Pyramid Head owned so fucking much, him defleshing that annoying redhead bitch was just fucking metal. Like two minutes after that scene I still hadn't recovered from that much ownage. The cinematogrophy on scenes like that and the final barbed wire scene were wicked sick.

Fucking bad ass. I'm glad they got guy who did the music for the games to do the music for the movie as it really added to the scense.

I saw the movie, but haven't played the games so I have some spoiler questions--

so did rose/sharon/the cop all die at the beginning in the crashes, was it just like an altered world, or did they die at the end in the church? Also I wouldn't mind hearing a summary of all the games if someone feels like posting it :O

I think they died in the crashes and were sent to the limbo that all the "sinners" and the demons were stuck in. Destroying the sinners got them in to "heaven" or whatever at the end for righting the wrongs that happened. That's what I got from it anyways. The spoiler Vorph posted seems to be close to that as well.

Perhaps at the end when Good Sharon sees Evil Sharon approach before the end of the slaughter, she merged with her like she did with her mother and now they can't leave her nightmare so long as Good Sharon carries the hatred from the Evil Sharon posessing her. Perhaps the sequel will be about finding a way to purge her and come back to reality.
