Is this the movie that was supposed to "continue" the Smallville line, or was that a rumor years ago?

I finally watched the clip, looks great. Surprisingly, I think the actor looks like a good Clark/Superman.

As for the casual movie goer. They say that the kid...

SPOILER INC...

Is really Superman's son.

I'm cool with it, though. Adds a whole new idea to the Superman saga. Actually, takes the story out of suspended animation (thank god).

This movie isnt an origin story. Technically, it's "part 3" in terms of continuity. It treats SM1+2 as past events, so he's fought General Zod and all that good stuff. That's why the film is Superman Returns and not Superman Begins ;p

The general plot is that Superman left Earth for awhile and comes back years later. I forget why he leaves exactly. Anyways, he comes back and Lois has a kid, etc...so naturally he's all "wtf???". Luthor notices he has returned so he decides now is as good a time as any to get revenge and whatnot. I also heard the movie might involve the kryptonian super criminals (aka zod and teh crew), although thats unconfirmed.

As for Zod, we're not sure if he's a past event. Someone has said that the whole Zod thing was removed, maybe for sequels?

Singer left it purposely ambigious. From what I remember he says that this film is founded in a "vague history" stemming from the Donner movies and even shared elements of Smallville.

Not really related to Smallville. That rumor came about when the producers of Smallville visited the set of the Fortress of Solitude for Superman Returns.

Though, drawing a paralell to Smallville, does Spacey's Lex remind anyone else of Rosenbaum's crazy or evil Lex? I swear he sounded just like the Smallville Lex when he said "NO!".

Yeah, he seems to mix both Hackman and Rosenbaum's Luthor together.

It's great! Makes for a nice, twisted (yet funny) Lex Luthor.
