Video Game Movies You'd Like to See DONE WELL

So far movies based on video games have failed miserably at being good movies, portraying the story of the game on which they are based at all, and generally everything that a movie should be.

I think we all can name one that pissed us off. Doom is my pet peeve, since that's a really hard premise to fuck up... A guy running around in a complex/hell blowing people away... But like every other video game movie I've ever seen (Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, D&D... etc) it was just reduced to shit by the powers of be. I guess resident evil might be an exception for some people.. I dunno, I didn't like it. Maybe I'm missing something else too.

With that said, I don't think it's impossibe to create an enjoyable, non-retarded movie based off a video game. Seems they are all aiming in the same direction of being a series of action scenes with shitty plots thrown in, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. Get semi-competent people to do it and I don't see why it can't work.

Well, with my rant over, what video game (console, PC, whatever) would you like to see done well?

I'm personally for a Tribes movie, as there's already lots of lore and all of it is very open-ended... Plenty of conflict to explore and lots of opportunity to inject crazy CG action scenes that the cinema has become so fond of... No really well known characters to fuck up. It may sound gay, but I think a film based in the Starsiege Tribes universe could be done really well, ala in a pulp fiction type of fashion, seeing as there are 4 main tribes duking it out, all with different perspectives on life, religion, etc. Maybe even squeeze in some crusades references, who knows.

I've been really pissed lately how money-fiend producers have been blowing opportunities to explore some really cool characters and stories just to make a quick, forgettable, and poorly done action film. Thoughts?

I'd love to see a Star Control 2 movie. It would kinda be like that TV series Andromeda I suppose.

I'd also like to see FF8 made into a movie.

Oddly enough, I think Phantasy Star 3 would make a good movie if they captured the right tone. It was similar to Xenogears in the sense that it had an emotional undercurrent that I liked.

SUPER METROID! Come on, the intro to that game was movie quality at the very least. I'd just hope they don't completely gay it up with other people. Maybe Samus could have a comm link to some dudes stationed somewhere else, but no one else on the planet!

You've already seen 2 metal gear movies if you "Played" the last 2.

I'd kinda like to see a good Warcraft3 movie.

Fallout, with Bruce Campbell as the Vault Dweller. Fuck yeah.

Half Life could potentially be a good movie, so long as they rewrote the story and made it, you know, coherent.

The idea of a Planescape movie by Peter Jackson gets my tail wagging.

In all seriousness, with 6 million+ subscribers worldwide, and even more if you throw in who was subscribed, is it inevitable that there will be a Warcraft movie/TV show?

Good call on Planescape, although it would have to be very R rated.

Iono about Phantasy Star 3. Which story path would they pick? the one that actually gives a real ending?
