The animation is definatly below average, and can be quite annoying at times, esepcially the action sequences, but the fact it is styleized, wow like, makes it mostly bareable. The story and writing however, more then make up for the animation, and it has many funny scenes throughout. Its really captures the same spirit that Shrek did, and if you liked Shrek, you will most likely enjoy this movie also. |

And after a second viewing, I think I was too harsh on the quality of the animation. Most of it is definatly good enough to carry the story, with the exception of the main character, Red. I thought that they needed much more expression from that character then what we got. A lot of times there were great emotional moments and dialogue from the character, but visually they came off very flat. Other then that critism, the story, writing, delivery, were all excellent. The story is well put together, with plenty of jokes spread througout the film. It just has so many funny scenes, and certainly some are more successful then others, none are really bad, and its never too long before another good one comes along. I think without a doubt it is better then Shrek 2, but am still torn about how it compares to the original Shrek. | |
