Everytime the Sci Fi channel announces another original movie I have to ask myself why those funds didn't become an episode of Farscape.

Dead Like Me, Carnivale, Farscape, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

JJ Abrams is a demigod as far as I am concerned. This could actually have a shot at being great.

Then again, "Nemesis" was written by John Logan, the guy who wrote "Gladiator," and it still managed to bomb. So you never know...

Also, I'm going to go on record as saying that I didn't mind "Nemesis." It was clunky at times, and the first 30 minutes or so were pretty awful. But the ending was great. Very bittersweet. Also, Data is the best character on any show or movie ever, except for Yoda. If Data and Yoda teamed up, no one could possibly stop them.

That's true, Logan also did Last Samuri and Aviator. If Rick Berman is hanging all over the writer, it won't matter who they are.

I really liked Nemesis too, sad how it bombed the way it did.

A movie about the rise and fall of Empress Hoshi !!

Or any movie / tv series set purely in the alternate universe would rock.

Don't they team up with Alias Girl and Jack Bauer to stop the Nazi-Communist Space-Pirate Ninjas from Space in your game, Millie?

This coming from someone who has obviously never watched much Star Trek.

I'd shit my pants if they made a DS9 Dominion Wars Movie.

I still think DS9 is the best series of the Star Treks, was gritty and the war stuff was awesome, seeing all the starships duking it out.

There was a DS9 "series relaunch" in book form that took place a couple years ago, apparently. Supposedly the books are pretty good and continue the storyline of DS9 since they wont make a movie. MAKE A FUCKING MOVIE, HOLY FUCKING SHIT. The first one is called A Stitch in Time and it is basically all about Garek (it was written by the actor to boot). But then they move onto the search for Sisko, chaos in The Dominion (Odo also decides to experiment with a Jem'Hadar to see what happens if one lives past 30), a prophecy that involves Sisko's unborn kid that involves alot of people dying if he's born, Kai Opaka making a return, Ferengi trying to overthrow Grand Nagus Rom, Section 31 recruiting a genetically enhanced human to deal with the Bashir issue after Sloan died, Sisko finally coming back after Jake succeeds in getting him, and the Cardassians become infected with a parasite (remember that shit from the 1st season of TNG? Talk about digging up an unresolved plotline heh).

They're pretty good for a DS9 fix.

But it was by far my favorite Trek series. The one strong thing about it was they had a good cast of supporting characters (Quark, Garek, Odo, Gul Dukat, etc). The space battles rocked hard, too. Especially in the last couple seasons...Jem'Haddar going kamikazi into ships, holes being blown into vessels and them venting into space, hundreds of ships all owning eachother...good stuff. It also wasnt afraid to deal with dark or touchy issues, most especially in the Dominion episodes, like when Sisko is a party to the assassination of a Romulan senator just to get them in the war or the fact Star Fleet is fine with letting genocide occur even though they claim to be against it. It also had the balls to end on a less then happy note: Damar dies, Sisko vanishes, O'Brien goes back to earth, Odo leaves Kira, Garek's entire family is now dead, hundreds of millions and entire planets have been destroyed.

Getting back to the subject: This film is actually based on a Star Fleet Academy film that was penned over a decade and a half ago and was later scrapped to make The Undiscovered Country, if I'm not mistaken. It essentially followed Kirk and Spock at the Academy, and how they meet Bones and Scotty. Aint it Cool has a synopsis on the basic plot. One interesting thing to note is many of the ideas from the script were cannibalized and used in later films like TUC and the TNG stuff.

DS9 is the Star Trek antithesis, no exploration and the universe just comes to them. I've never saw an episode of the show I liked, on the other hand I can still watch ST:TNG when I'm bored.

You obviously never saw many episodes then. While it did focus on the station and the surrounding area mostly, they did do exploring in the gamma quadrant frequently. You'd also understand why the station got some much variety coming to it if you paid attention (the wormhole = the only stable wormhole known and it went to an unexplored part of space).

Sounds like you only watched the first couple of seasons. I was the same way until I watched the entire series. It picks up steam towards the end.

Ok, the more you guys talk about what the script was supposed to have happen the more I start to think I'll have to convince god to strike the set with lightning until they stop filming.
"Hey what a coinky-dink, we all hung out at the same frat parties back in the day! Sulu, plot my course towards that hot piece of azn ass over there"

also I ended up disliking nemesis just because it seemed made to be a stand-alone (of course, all the TNG movies seemed that way). They could've saved 30 minutes to actually explore Picard/Evil Picard more if they had just had Data fix Lore instead of having the guys go out to tool around a desert planet to find a spare android that Dr. Tsun must've just forgot he made (didn't he refer to Lore and Data as his only successful creations when he recalled them to his Yoda jungle world?)

If Rick Berman and Brannon Braga get within a lightyear of this project it has a high probability of sucking. Those guys are the worst thing that ever happend to Star Trek.

DS9 starts to pick up with the final episode of season 2 and was pretty shitty up until then. TNG started out kinda weak too with Wesley saving the ship every other fucking episode.
