What fucking babies. A big event happens in the world, people create things in response to it. That's fucking art. Was anyone here raising a fuss when Hotel Rwanda came out? It's not exploiting merely to create a film/book/etc based on a real life event. People need to get over it just because the shit happened in the USA.

My grandpa died of Alzheimer's, don't make any movies about it or it's exploiting his memory! No cancer stories, no kids dying young, nothing about any crimes period because, by GOD, someone has suffered from it and it's exploiting their memories! Let's just stick to sequels of Rambo.

Clearly you've forgotten you're talking about the country that is so full of overly sensitive fuckwits that we had to have the WTC digitally removed from movies that were filmed prior to 9/11 but released after it. But now it's ok to make 9/11 movies, so people can sit around and call them "heart-warming," "emotional," and "poignant". Art? Yea, right. I'd call it propaganda myself. They aren't being made with the intent to make anyone think about what happened, they are just there to placate the masses--even Oliver Stone, who didn't mind coming off as a crackpot with his take on JFK, doesn't seem to be doing anymore than simply making a feel-good movie.

I do agree that it's funny to glance over the imdb boards about these movies though. Thread titles like "disgusting!!!" "they shouldn't be allowed to make this movie" and "Yeah! Hollywood is gonna go capitalize off a national tragedy!" are a dime a dozen over there. Fucking morons.

Ah, so they did get permission from the families of the people on the plane. I kind of assumed they just made a movie they knew people would go see either to admire or abhor it and then proceed to say "what? oh, this movie is not based on real people or events. Any such relations are coincidental..." in the credits.

Doubt I'll see it, not for any reason other than I doubt it will actually be worthy of the name art. Might see the World Trade Center one, because I'm sure Oliver Stone will try something crazy to reinvent events, but they'll make a shit load of money for the same reason the Passion and the Da Vinci Code did.

I was refering to the book's 40 million copies sold despite it being a piece of garbage. The movie will probably be better, though the "mystery" and "clues" will still be inherently weak unless Ron Howard changed them.
