Wolf Creek

surprised there isn't already a thread going for this.

Overall a really well done horror movie. It varys alot from other horror movies in that it actually develops the characters and they drive the story not the events (though the events are great). I don't know if I would call this alot like TCM but it really is Australia's TCM. Definetly a breath of fresh air in the horror genre that has been putting out for the most part terrible movies the last 3-4 years. For those thinking it is a all out crazy murder rampage of a movie with continous brutality, that is the one thing it is not (though parts are).

8.5/10

Thumbs up

and all that other crap.

I thought this movie sucked. The first fifty minutes, nothing happened. You may call it "character developement", but come one, not even drama's take taht long to develope character. Horror movies should never take that long for something, SOMETHING to happen. And when something finally did happen, it wasn't all that spectacular. The action lasted what, 25 minutes? Then the movie suddenly ended on a loose end.

4/10

The whole movie is basically just showing some of the terrible and horrific things that can happen when you are out in the middle of no where and there is no one to help. Like I said this is a very different kind of horror movie so if someone wants a movie that just goes all out from the get go they are not going to like this. There is no jump out scenes to get a jump out of someone there is no disturbing images to get a rise out of people. To me the horror does start earlier in the movie as they get further and further away from civilation and the realization that they do not know what to do when something does go wrong and there is no one to help.

Some people won't like this for the very reasons Element said but I truly did like it. ( I do agree that the development took a bit too long it could have been cut by like 10-15 mins easily but it didn't really bother me any but it will for some people , same fault King Kong has )

Yes and no, I believe they put a "Presented by quentin tarentino" on Wolf creek as they did with Hero. He didnt have anything to do with the movie other than aparently being part of the reason it was released in the states.

Oh come on, it is not character development. The first half of the movie is just plain boring . Apart from the gas station part, the dialogs can be summed up with this :

"Ohhh look, it is so beautiful around here"
"Yes it is beautiful"
"What a beautiful sight"
"This is definately a beautiful place"
"Yeah, it is realy beautiful"
"Ok lets go drive some more through this beautiful area"

I agree about the fact that most of the recent horror movies have been complete crap recently (High tension was not so bad acctualy), but as for calling it a breath of fresh air ? More like it smells good like the 70's. It is so very similar to the original TCM in many points.

All in all it was still an entertaining movie, despite the long and slow start. The killer was quite funny.

*** SPOILER ***

WTF was the part where the killer just magically happens to be in the car the girl picks ? And how did she not hear him coming ? Like his car driving back, or any kind of noises. They are in the middle of the desert, it's not like there are many other sounds around.

I liked Wolfcreek myself. The slow build up to the movie made it more real for me. I was actually scared by this movie because of the thought: What if this happened to my family and I while we were on vacation somewhere? It's almost impossible to defend yourself against a well trained psycho. I guess in the end I can only hope I never encounter anything like that.

word, after seeing it again I still like it alot it is very well done. Alot of people complain about it not going into the "horror" quick enough but it doesn't bother me at all because it is a good story that really makes the characters more real and not just the typical generic horror victim.
