| There is no internets | Underworld 2 Went to see Wallace & Gromit this weekend and I saw a slew of movie posters for future releases that got me very excited. One of which is Underworld 2: Evolution. Firstly, my question to you all is did you find the first Underworld entertaining. In answering my own question (obviously) I thought it was a great movie. Pretty much from beginning to end the movie was pure horror-fantasy/action goodness. CGI was not over the top, acting was good, storyline plot was excellent, and the ending left the possibility of a sequel being made. I bought the DVD, which in my world is a big deal (rarely buy DVDs due to NetFlix). I dont have much info on the movie, my guess is that the second old vampire lord has had the blood of the werewolf mixed in with his, which is going to cause the second badass were-vampire to be created, not sure what else will come into play. What amazes me is how poorly this movie did in the box office, so my hope is this will do much better in the next go round.

| Uh.. the first Underworld movie : - Story : Not too bad for a vampire movie. - Chick : Hot. - Action : Pretty nice, I liked the "neon-blue bullets" and the silver shurikens. - Ending : Predictable since the moment the Werewolf gets his skull shattered, but decent nevertheless. I suppose that the movie did not do very well simply because people expected it to suck and didn't bother, considering the late trend of vampire movies that suck more ass than vampires suck blood. I will watch the sequel gladly. |

| Underworld was worth a once through, but it was a rather poor summer flick otherwise. The vampire theme was done rather lamely, with vampires acting more or less as humans who can jump really high. None of the good stuff that makes vampires interesting.

+13 Internets | I found Kate Beckinsale to be very sexy in the first one. Aside from that, the premise was decent enough, but not enough was done to establish it. I thought the Vampire nation depicted in Blade2 was superior in ever way to the one shown in Underworld. |

| I really wanted to like Underworld, but it pretty much fucking blew. To me the whole concept of an eternal war of immortals is awesome, except underworld fucked it up with technology that instantly kills one side or the other. Add to that the fact that every vampire except the awakened elder is a total fucking emo pussy that does nothing but sit around trying to look sexy in their goth costume and you wind up with me swearing at the screen the first time a vampire was scared of/ran from a werewolf. I mean come on, wheres your undead strength, your lightning reflexes, your preternatural senses listening for heartbeats? No no, none of that, instead of have guns with bullets of werewolf slaying +5 and gimmicky throwing stars. In closing, fuck Underworld, it could have been so sweet if they had ponied up and gotten whitewolf involved with the project. |

| While I agree with some of complaints people have about the first movie--overly weak vampires in particular--I still loved it. I'm really looking forward to the second one too, although it's quite worrisome that the studio bumped it into January. That's usually the kiss of death to any movie. Kate Beckinsale as a vampire is more than enough to get me to see it the day it opens, regardless. Not sure where you got that the first movie did poorly though. It made back its entire production budget on opening weekend, went on to more than double the cost domestically, and had strong DVD sales. |

| I think that had more to do with marketing than anything else.

+66 Internets | It was pretty weak from beginning to finish. It had "Straight to Hot Topic DVD" written all over it too. It was one of those flicks where through the whole thing I was saying, 'Oh, what the fuck, come on!" I mean, the only decent part was the attack on the train where the wearwolves wtfpwned everybody and it should have been basically 2 hours of that. Instead, as others have pointed out, it was an hour and 30 minutes of an emofag jacking it over someone who's chest I would definately shit on, but would never date because of her "Daddy loves me!" issues. Victor died way too easily too. |

+16 Internets | The first one was so-so but had several things going for it. A plot more subtle than you would think at first, an actor for the werewolf leader that sounds cheap at the begining but end up to be pretty cool or a vampire boss that seems to be an old irish mobster... Sadly, the good is spoiled by a totaly uncharismatic lead female (the blond english girl steals all the scenes where both are there) and a transparent lead male, by a too obvious lack of budget (only the opening scene has some extra!) and also by missed oportunites. A missed oportunity is the transmission of memories through blood. You could make an amazing plot around this idea, but they decided not to. Another one is using silver nitrate in the bullets. How can someone working for the movie industry put some silver nitrate in a scenario and not link it somehow with the fact silver nitrate is a key substance for early photography and cinema?? On a side note (you know how much I like those), why do movies always feel the urge to tell the story of "teh ultimate prophecy dat will come tru in teh end!1!"? Movies are usualy too short to do that well without feeling rushed, using poor deus ex machina and/or sacrificing the complexity of the story or the universe. Why not keep the scale of the story in check, so that if you make a sequel you are not forced to do "a ultimate prophecy even more ultimate than the previous one!"?

| Underworld pissed me off because it was an obvious ripoff of White Wolf's World of Darkness and yet, it wasn't done right. The vampires were way too pussified (Viktor should have been able to melt faces). Kate Beckinsale was the saving grace of the movie and will likely be for the second one as well.

| I'd like them to scrap this whole Underworld business and make a Vampire: The Masquerade movie, but we can't always get what we want. An year ago I would've dreaded seeing another lame vampire movie that explores the same old cliches with Matrix shit thrown in for good measure, but after playing the Masquerade games, I kinda dig vampires again, and if not exactly enthusiastic, I am looking forward to this. |
