For all you Halo and LoTR fans out there

Peter Jackson will be producing the upcomning Halo movie. Too bad he isn't directing it also. Anyone familar with Alex Garland? He wrote the script to teh movie. Man I hope it doesn't suck ass.

Alex Garland is primarily a pop novelist. He wrote "The Beach," and did a draft or two of the adapted screenplay. He also wrote the screenplay for "28 Days Later." He's not what you'd call a brilliant writer or anything, but he's not a total hack either.

Regardless, "Halo" can't possibly be made into a decent movie... The track record for video game-to-movie adaptations is abysmal.

Meh..... 28 days later. That movie sucked ass.

As for video game to movie the only one I liked was the 1st Mortal Kombat. It was a pretty decent movie imo. It was way much better than Street Fighter and Mario Brothers. God I fucking hated that movie.

Not to mention the fact that it's Halo, the story wasn't exactly a Pulitzer nominee.

Halo movie could be interesting if they incorperate the novel "The Fall of Reach". It was actually a pretty good read and basically goes into the history of the Spartan program, with it ultimately concluding with Reach getting overrun.

Plus you would have an truely epic badass space battle scene if you showed that. Planetary based orbital assault guns + fleets of ships + ground troops = money.

Let's see...

Mario Bros.
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat
Tomb Raider
House of the Dead

Yeah, it will probably suck ass, and I can't even think of the rest of the shitpile game>movies that came out.

Well, the Beach might be famous, but it ain't brilliant.
The Tesseract was mediocre at best (aside from the furious start) and The Coma ranks among the worst books I've ever read.

Than again. It's not like a FPS-to-movie conversion needs much of a story. Wonder if they hire The Rock once more

To be fair though, movie technology has come a long way and video games have become more prominant in our lives.

And for the record, the Mario movie wasn't all that bad. The acting was a bit cheesy, but that was to be expected for the time period. It's no worse then Total Recall. GET YO ASS TO MARS.

I wouldnt say Tomb Raider was that abysmal. Certainly the casting (Angelina Jolie) didnt have anything to do with my impressions though!

Then again, so was the track record for sword and sorcery movies before LOTR. Eventually we'll get one good game to movie translation.

I'm not saying Halo will be it though. I'm honestly not sure what to expect or even want from that movie. I'm mainly a fan of the franchise only because of the "I Love Bees" radio drama and those characters will probably never make it to the big screen no matter how well the franchise as a movie license does.
