| Good book or book series? Hey,just finished re reading George RR Martins 3 Song of ice and fire books to refresh my memory for the new one coming out in (hopefully) November, and i realized that i'm now out of reading material. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a new series or whatever like Martin, or Eriksons Malazan Empire Series. Or even single books, just something good to read before i go to sleep at night. I've read a fair amount of stuff, but I'm sure i've missed some good shit (fuck WoT) and am currently reading Vampires by John Steakley, but so far, it's no where near as good as Armor ![]() |

+3 Internets | First of all you should know that i like my fantasy to be written in a mature tone and to be special and free of clisee. I also hate the "comming of age" theme , all that "teenage boy who is a freaking stupid peasant but is special cause the author sais so stumbles upon a train of events and becomes hero/magician/savior of the universe" bullshit. Keeping that in mind here are my recomendations. Great fantasy books for those who know how to apreciate them : Guy Graviel Kay : Tigana , Last light of the sun , actually all his books except Fionnan tapestry. C.S. Friiedman Coldfire Trilogy J V.Jones Sword Of Shadows A Cavern Of Black Ice J V Jones-Sword Of Shadows A Fortress Of Grey Ice Keyes Greg - The Briar King Keyes Greg - the charred prince

+25 Internets | I gotta say, The Farseer Trilogy (Assassin's Quest and such) is nothing like A Song of Ice and Fire. At all. I found the trilogy merely decent, with a dogshit boring first book, and a second book that didn't get interesting until halfway through. The ending to the trilogy was too happy for me to stomach, though I'm told the Fool's series picks up where it left off. That said, the interesting parts were pretty good, but I'm not sure there was enough of it in there to make up for the rest of the series. I'm sorry, but I have to agree about the 'coming of age' shit, and I detest common magic usage, both of which the Farseer Trilogy had in spades. I'll go with the Stephen King recommendation as well. It's hard to run out of reading material when you want to know everything about the Dark Tower. |

+6 Internets | William Gibson's Neuromancer is a good read, so is Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game". There both sci-fi, but "Neuromancer" is very well written and deliciously cyber-punky and "Ender's Game" is a quick, fun read.

| For fantasy books, I've always thought Guy Gavriel Kay's The Fionavar Tapestry is very underrated. Currently for non-fantasy I'm recommending "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, to anyone who will listen to me. Excellent, excellent book. |

+38 Internets | Prepare yourself for disapointment, actually. Once you get to the end you probably will be let down, but at the same time realize there was no other alternative to ending it satisfactorily. |
