It's rumored (supposedly leaked by Kirsten Dunst herself) that the villans are supposed to be Venom and Sandman.

If so, it should be great.

These rumors are weird though.. Spider-Man 2 clearly established Harry Osborne as the heir of the Green Goblin, much as in the comics, and I pretty much expected to see MJ's astronaut fiancé go on some dangerous space mission to take his mind off her and come back infected by either Venom (most likely) or some virus that makes him a werewolf (I forget the villain's name).

I hope they have sandman as the main villian, and just introduce Eddie Brock and the symbiote. Maybe have Peter use the symbiote to fight sandman then have the story of Brocks life falling apart and how he blames Peter as a sideplot. End the movie with the symbiote bonding with Eddie which would set up for Venom as the main villian of part 4.

In the cartoon, the venom symbiote arrived on earth by Jameson's son bringing it back from a space mission. It glomped onto Peter, and when he got rid of it, it oozed down onto Brock whom he had tied up below. So that could be similar to how they are bringing it this time.

Kirsten Dunst, who will reprise the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's upcoming third Spider-Man movie, has confirmed rumors that the sequel's villains will be Venom and Sandman, Zap2It reported. Meanwhile, Kirsten Dunst again said who she believes are the villains to MTV:

"I think we have ... I'm going to say two and a half bad guys," the "Elizabethtown" star said. "Because I think one of them is resurrected. But yeah, two and a half bad guys, I think, about in this movie."

She is referring to Thomas Haden Church playing Sandman and Topher Grace playing Venom in the film, with the identity of the "half" villain unknown at this time, but it could possibly be Harry Osborn turning into Green Goblin II or Hobgoblin.
