| Pride and Prejudice Edit: commentary below Anybody seen it yet that can tell me if I've blown $18 on the ticket? Or will I be the first to know an hour's time? Sadly, I know absolutely nothing about this movie or what sort of praise it might have received. I didn't pay much attention to the posters when they were printed in English due to the 26th (or whatever) release date. Now that there is a special opening, I can't read the damn things. Why did I buy the ticket? Miss Knightly speaks to me and told me to. Last edited by Hyarth : 09-25-2005 at 06:56 AM. |

+16 Internets | It's based off a Jane Austin book. That alone should tell you it sucks ass, unless you like the old style "chick flicks". Can't even stand the books. My first big experience with them was like 12 years ago in High School. Over the summer, we were required to read Great Expectations and Emma, and keep a detailed journal of both with chapter by chapter breakdowns. I figured you couldnt go wrong with Charles Dickens (heh...how naive), so I did that first. Took too damn long, plus it was the summer ;p So get back, turns out like 3/4ths the class didnt do the whole assignment. So the teacher goes "Write an essay on the overall book then and about it's meaning" due in 1 week. I had not read Emma yet, so I looked at the book jacket and asked someone's opinion on the book. I then used my natural talents at padding a paper plus guessing what the teacher wanted to read, and created my essay. End result: My journal on GE got a C-, my Emma paper got an A. Needless to say, I dropped that class and picked a different english.

| It was actually really well done, once you got past the plot. For any guys being dragged to this with females: Take ten minutes or so and shout, "you fucking moron" at the wall. This should allow you to preemptively subdue the desire to shout this during the movie and allow you to enjoy it. I haven't read the book. If the book is as bad as Cybsled says, then this is the case where the movie is better than the book. The cinematography was, for the most part, very very well done. The acting was good, the score was good. I'm assuming the dialogue was drawn from the book, but it was delivered very well, in a manner that might not be conveyed by text. And a lot of time is spent looking at Miss Knightly, which is always good. That said, this movie is -- by and large -- about stupid fuckwits. There are a lot of moments where you think, "Ok, that may suck, but this situation is easily resolved (even by etiquette standards of that century) if you stop being fuckwits." Hence, my advice regarding shouting at a wall. Social blunders run amok in regards to stifled romantic situations, sums up this movie. All the same, you could do much much worse when it comes to watching a chick flick (think anything with sandra bullock). If you've got to go to one (or are starving to meet chicks, the (hot) chick to guy ratio in the theatre was amazing) see it. This showing was apparently sponsored by H&M jeans. We were subjected to a short 'film' (with R&B song) by David Lachapelle. He has whored himself out to the advertising industry, and done so poorly. If it was well done, that'd be fine, but it was a horrific reenvisioning of Romeo and Juliette. Also, they handed out tissue packets before going in, with the H&M jeans logo (which I thought was great, I'm running out of tissues.) A final note: This was the most impressive movie theatre I've ever been in, the Dutch have this shit down. |

| Okay, I'll step up to the plate. There's nothing wrong with the book. Its a classic victorian novel, that represents the writing style and the life style of the time. Its a work of art that has a lot going on in it, and yes, women love the crap out of it, so actually reading it or having seen the movie for the future ability to talk about it at least half assed would be a good idea. A few hours for some free points, you're stupid not to take it.

| ... I hated the book.... But it is probably the earliest chick-flick type story every written. The writting isn't terrible, its actually quite good. The problem is the plot is borring - unless of course you are into chick-flicks!. |
