| Oldboy I'm surprised no one else has posted about this movie yet. This is going to be another one of those 'oh man, you never saw Oldboy?!' movies. Like.. Equillibrium. Basic premise: Guy is kidnapped for 15 years and suddenly set free. He wants revenge obviously, and in looking for his kidnapper finds out he has 5 days to figure out who/what/when/why he was kidnapped in the first place. This movie has a sort of Memento meets Kill Bill meets Sixth Sense feel to it. It's got puzzle elements that make you pay attention, but not as obtuse as Memento. It has the whole burning revenge thing, and one pretty nice action sequence. It has a shocking and surprising ending, but no stupid Deus Ex Machina like 'it was all a dream, haha!' that has become the norm among 'twist endings' now. It might be somewhat hard to find at most rental places. You'll either have to buy it on amazon like I did, or netflix it most likely. If your lucky enough to have a good rental place that carries it, I highly recommend checking it out. |

| http://www.fohguild.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14234 ! What really gets me is they're remaking it already like it's just some shitty j-horror flick to make a buck off of. I don't care if Nic Cage is behind it, there's no possible way to do justice to the story in mainstream Hollywood. And if you like Oldboy, definitely check out Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance too. Same director. |

+16 Internets | There is no justice to be done to that story really though. The story is by far the weakest thing of Old Boy (with the casting/acting of the villain).

| O, ye of little faith.. Granted, the director/writer may have a hard time fitting it in while he directs FAST AND THE FURIOUS 3, I still believe it shall be good*. *for me to poop on. Seriously though, this is one that I wouldn't mind a straight remake by the same director, in english (ala Grudge). Some of the nuance of the movie is lost in translation *rimshot*. Oh, and I think this is the first movie that I felt GAINED something by dubbing instead of subtitling. All those quick inner monologues that a normal person would speak out loud, you might think were actually being spoken if you had to read them. Luckily, the voices they used for dubbing were decent enough to not detract from the movie too much. |

+16 Internets | Pretty good revenge flick. It's a little confusing and fucked up to start, but I do like how by the end of the movie everything is tied up nicely. As for an english remake, the bad guy's motive would have to be the same or it just wouldnt have the same effect.
