Dungeons & Dragons Movies

I know that there was a horrible movie in 2000 that tarnished the very name of D&D in cinema, and there is another abortion that continues in very much the same fashion coming in 2005 (different director). But my real point for making this post is to ask a question. Are there really any "good" D&D type movies out there? Something where you get a clear definition of characters and archetypes and such? If so, please post suggestions...if not, hell I might just decide to write the script myself...D&D deserves alot more film justice than what's been done right now.

Just thought I'd tell you that I recently saw the new D&D movie, and holy shit it sucked. Horrible acting + bad effects + not so good storyline = wasted 2 hours of my life.

The 'old' D&D movie was so laughably terrible I was ashamed to be associated in any way with the license.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here, to some extent. Without a doubt D&D2 is better then the original, though it is still pretty ordinary. Definatly the acting is atrocious. The storyline is so so, but I don't think is all that different from a typical D&D type quest. The main problem I had with the effects was blending them in with the action. The ice dragon was quite well done, but just looked a little out of place. The budget for this movie was only $5m so I can understand they took a few shortcuts.

One thing I did like was that they tried implement the classes into the movie, though it felt a little contrived.

All in all, if you saw the original then you are the type of person not afraid to throw 2 hours of their life away, so no reason why you shouldn't see the sequal as well, it is a step up.

4/10

There already are 3 great D&D movies...they're called the LOTR trilogy.

D&D

While not a mainstream movie, definitly go find a copy of "The Gamers", its a short film made by some independant film makers called Dead Gentlemen Productions. Its about 50 minutes long amd is quite amusing. Basically its about a group of D&D players and the story jumps between what is going on in character and what is going on in the gaming room. There are plenty of jokes for us Gamers, and even a handful for people who have never picked up a set of dice.

"The Fellowship of the Ring" was the best Dungeons and Dragons movie I've seen.

Believe it or not, there was actually a Saturday morning cartoon based on D&D. I downloaded it just recently and am watching it now. I'll post a review later.

I'm not really into much Anime, but I do own the Lodoss War OVA. Good stuff.

Don't lie to him, no one can enjoy Red Sonya. My brain hurts just from remembering it.

I used to watch them as a kid. They even had a line of D&D toys from the cartoon. I think I had the shambling mound and carrion crawler toys...don't know where they went though ;(
