Look at the quality of the film that was made considering the budget. That is the point that was being made.
The film was entertaining and quite funny watching it the first time around. Entertaining and quite funny do not a quality film make. "The quality despite/considering..." is not a a valid arguement at all because it is the anthesis of what artists strive for. It might be an admirable quality from the business side of things but I asked about Kevin Smith as an artist. I don't give a fuck about Kevin smith as a businessman.

Artists want to make the product they want to make. Sometimes there are limitations given the medium. In the case of films, time and money. Clerks was an excellent film. Despite and considering are completely valid as long as they aren't ment as apologies or excuses. Clerks was good enough of a film that it doesn't need any of either. It was great.

It gave Kevin Smith the opportunity to continue to make films and actually have a budget. This is the antithesis of what he would want because why?

Kevin Smith is a bit like if a cool yet bordeline geek pal decided to do movie. So even if the end result is not great, you can't help to have a lot of sympathy for it and him.

I will give you guys that. As I post this I am watching An Evening with Kevin Smith as some of you suggested. He is a hell of a public speaker.

You lost me there. What more do you want from his movies?

Maybe it's just me (actually, given the legion of fans he has, I know it's not just me) but give me interesting characters with hilarious, vulgar, and definitely-not-PC dialogue and I'm sold. If you really want to look for one, his movies usually have a message buried in between the "dick and fart jokes" too. Dogma isn't my favorite movie of his, but I really like the point he was trying to make with it.

I've never actually seen Jersey Girl though, and don't plan to. No need to spoil a good thing.

I actually enjoyed Jersey Girl,I am married so romantic movies are something of a torture for me that I must give in to on a fairly regular basis.Jersey Girl was entertaining to me,for what it was.If a guy has to watch a romantic comedy Jersey Girl would probably be one of the better ones in terms of male enjoyment.
