Visceral. Yes you "nailed" it there.
But u have to have a soecial mindset and personality profile for this to work.
I am unsure if this is the right translation but "rationalist" personatity types are less prone to be impressed by a "visceral" movie . So they like it less.

If you are the type that just "goes with the flow" and let yourself be immersed in the movie , the chances are Sin City is the best movie ever for you. If u like to rationalize everything , to think before u let yourself feel , then chances are you didnt liked this movie and you should feel better by reading an Issac Assimov story.

AKA, the suspension of disbelief. If one isn't capable of it, they have no place critiquing movies apart from technical merit. There comes a time and a place when such people need a good smack to the head and to be told, "It's a movie, not a fucking docu-drama."

I really enjoyed the movie. I found certain parts disturbing, but that was good too. I could go on about stylistic stuff and other assorted nonsense, but what mattered most was I walked out of the theater very pleased to have seen the movie

Is it possible they would ever nominate Sin City for an oscar?

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I didn't really care for this movie. There's so much better out there that I guess I really can't get my "suspension of disbelief" high enough that I can't stop asking myself; That's Acting?

You know when you're watching a good Film, and I never got that feeling one tiny bit watching Sin City. Overrated to say the least. How people can worship this shit, I have no idea.

As for an oscar, I hope so. It would truly show how worthless they are.

clive owen was 10x better in closer. he was a spacey moron devoid of emotions in sin city.

and wtf i feel the need to be different so i call a movie on it's bullshit? it really just sounds too much like you want to get with the crowd and drool over a pile of shit. i'm all about just watching a movie for the enjoyment of watching a movie, but the problem is everyone is following this movie like hitler to the slaughter and it just wasn't that good.

I thought it was a pretty good movie, besides the non-existent plot and a few very badly spoken lines. The style was very cool and all, but it was all flash and no substance for me.

People thought Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a great flick. Just because you put a filter over the lens cap does not make a bad flick a potential classic. This movie was 90% hoochie and 10% Bruce Willis and he needs to die of stale acting already.

That being said, I'm glad I watched it. Even more glad I didn't pay to. 8)

That's the flaming I was talking about on page 1.

Also, I'd bet that this will be nominated for Cinematography and Script-Adaptation.

you don't get it

Those of you that have problems with the plot consistancy and whatnot don't seem to understand, Robert Rodriguez was a huge fan of Frank Miller's comic series and they collaborated to replicate the style of the comic directly to screen, using cinamatic techniques that that had been used maybe in just the Sky Captain movie but upped it up another notch. From an artistic point of view, Sin City is fucking genius. If it's not your cup of tea, then go rent a shitty film like National Treasure which might be easier for you to follow.

There was a weakness I believe with Jessica Alba's performance as Mary, she refused to shed her clothes like the character did in the comics in the strip club, and I thought that was pretty weak for someone that was not that talented to begin with. She could have taken a lesson from Carla Gugino (Marv's parole officer) who looked and acted a million times better than she did and got that the nudity was appropriate for the role.

Can't wait for the sequel next year!

All you people bitching about plot have to understand that's how all the novels are. They don't really tie together in a meaningful way, it's more like a day in the life of sin city type of arrangement. I was pretty darned happy that they didn't try and glue three different books together to make one story arc. They did as they should have and told three seperate stories, with a bit of the salesman thrown in for shits and giggles.

Not the entire movie. The original pitch for the movie was a 15-minute sequence featuring a zeppelin landing on the Chrysler Building (or something like that), done in what would become the style of the movie, on the creator's Macintosh (and, if the rumors are true, a 10-year-old Macintosh at that). From there, the rest of the movie was shot entirely on a blue or green screen, with graphics done to match those of the original sequence.
