I would give this movie the highest marks because it's something fresh and creative. At a time when every movie that comes out is the same tired crap, and Hollywood is so bankrupt for new ideas that it has to turn to comic books and Asia for inspiration, to see something that's actually innovative is noteworthy. And the Marv storyline is the clincher because it kicked so much ass. The other two narrative arcs are "eh," but Mickey Rourke's story was the real deal.

In any way, I'm with Vorph on this one. Easily the best movie this year, and I doubt any of the upcoming are gonna beat it - V for Vendetta is skipped until spring 2006 and a 2 hour GoF is not gonna do the job matter how cool the trailer is this far.

Yisually Sin City was one of the most amazing things I've seen in recent years, you'll be hard pressed to find something that matches its quality. I'll admit, I've never read Sin City or paid it much attention before the movie so that may be where alot of gripes come from. But I remember leaving the theatre somewhat depressed with it - I can't give any details exactly without rewatching it and to be honest I don't think I could force myself to sit through it again. What I do remember however is wondering how they could get away with so many consistency problems. That was really the only problem I had with it, the story. Most of the reviews were right, oddly enough, visually stunning - but after the first few minutes you're left wondering if you still continue watching it or not.

What do you mean by consistency problems? If you're talking continuity, you should be aware that the stories don't take place in order and the time frames overlap to a degree. There's a site with a detailed timeline for everything in Sin City. Some things have to be approximated, but it all works out. The site probably won't help you much if you haven't read all the books though, and it contains spoilers so I wouldn't recommend reading it if you care about Sin City 2 or checking out the books someday.

Kind of the reason I didn't want to post but I felt compelled to agree with Millie. I really don't remember exactly what it was, just a few things here and there that the script supervisor should've caught but didn't. More then the usual. There was also a few(not many) holes in the story. God this is making me want to watch it again just so I can clarify my argument, heh. (edit) Remember one: Whenever Marv goes the farm, Kevin apparently has the ability to sense when someone is nearby from within the house. However, later in the movie(but earlier in the story), same farm house, he's too busy sitting on the front porch to notice someone is close? It was just odd that his 6th sense doesn't work in a place it should, yet does in a place it shouldn't.

+2 Internets | Sin City was pure ownage, there are very few films i can watch and completely escape the surroundings im in and "live" the movie. this one delivered. Even if you hated the story there is enough of everything else there for you to enjoy. |

Any movie that makes me come out of the theater at the end feeling afraid of Elijah Wood and impressed by Mickey Rourke's acting deserves a special mention. I felt like the universe had been turned inside out.

So that brings up the question how he knew WHY Marv was there, thus making it seem he only responds in situations which are only hostile to him... or maybe he just got lucky in caring that one time. That's kind of a problem with movies, you're so used to things happening perfectly(albeit supposedly random to the character(s) to progress the story, that when something totally random does happen that isn't perfect it just feels odd. Maybe it's just me, probably is.

/sigh i agree with millie. i never thought the day would come but seriously, it was a bunch of loosely connected trash. i'll concur 100% that it was a great adaptation of comic book action to the movie screen, but other than that it wasn't all that entertaining. on the note of continuity problems, there are fragments of scenes where there is no blood colored on his face and the scratches from kevin switch directions. these things were painfully obvious to me so i don't know how the editors missed it in such a cgi heavy movie. many better films this year

I love this movie. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's just incredibly entertaining to me and I love the style. I didn't really notice any continuity stuff, or if I did, it didn't bother me enough to detract from enjoying the content. Also, what is people's beef with Willis/Alba? I thought they were pretty good. Alba is a little weak in the acting skillz (still good, just compared to Clive Owen/Mickey Rourke, imo) department, but who cares? She's the hottest person on the planet. I don't watch movies for anything but being entertained, and this movie delivered on the most visceral level.
