+5 Internets | The only big problem I see with making Ender's Game into a movie is that you have to find not one, not two, not three, but at the very least half a dozen competent child actors... even one crappy performance (doesn't have to be Ender) could ruin the entire movie (hihi anakin). Last I heard though they were thinking about doing it all CG. Could be interesting... |

| Enders Game Would it really hurt the movie to advance the child's ages 6 years? A 12 year old Ender would appear just as vunerable as a 6 year old Ender. The only problem would be that would make the older kids 16 or so, but I don't think it would ruin the movie. It would make it much easier to find competant actors though. |

| Romo is a manwhore | Couple months ago I caught a quick word from OSC and he said they'd condensed the events down to one year and were making all the children a bit older. Said the youngest, Bean, was like 9. He's heavily involved in the process but cautioned it wouldn't be a direct translation. |

| Ender's Game (and its sequels, and the shadow series) are some of my favourite books and I'm really not looking forward to this abortion of a movie. To do it right, as was said earlier you'd need *a lot* (Petra, Ender, Bean, Shen, Alai, Bonzo, Carn, Peter, Valentine and all the less important characters that still play a small part like Hot Soup, Crazy Tom, that kid that bullies Ender in his launchie group) of very good child actors, a lot of good CGI (the battleroom scenes are going to be hell to shoot on film) and most important of all a good enough director so that 10 year old kids in spacesuits that talk like 25 year olds doesn't look ridiculous. The books really help suspend disbelief, but on screen I really don't see how it could work, even with 12 year olds. |

+2 Internets | I loved the books too. I really really did . I do hope they make a good movie out of it. Hmm they could maybe use the little kid from Equilibrium .. he was beliveble enough.

| Oh, there are alot of kid actors who seem way more mature when they talk in person. If you hang out with adults more then kids, you tend to pick up adult mannerisms and speech patterns. Dakota Fanning, if you've ever seen her in an interview, can astound you with how mature she can seem. Then, a moment later she's a little kid talking about barbie dolls. Haley Joel Osment was the same, but he's probably too old now for this movie. (oh wow, just checked imdb, he's 17 now. No new pictures of him on imdb since his last movie, filmed over 3 years ago. Wonder if he sprouted up like Ben Savage did and he looks 25 now). Cameron Bright I could see as Peter, or Bean, or Ender... Lot of people. Still, I definetly agree that the hardest part will be getting good enough performances out of all these child actors. Considering the circumstances they are in, it's already kind of far fetched. If you throw in crappy acting, it will become a campfest instead of a great sci-fi film. "The enemy's gate is down!" could either be a fierce battle cry or a comedic relief moment, depending on the actor's delivery. I hope they don't screw this up, I love Ender's game ![]() |

| I read Ender's Game years ago so I remember a little bit about it. I however never read any of the sequels. I had heard they went downhill quickly after Ender's Game. Could be a really cool movie as I thought Ender's Game was a great book. However, the ages of the boys/girls is going to make it not work so well. Ender wasnt a teenager in the book so casting one would ruin it... and casting a real 6 year old would also ruin it cause.. well he is 6. No way a 6 year old could pull off playing a genius/commander without it looking very strained. So im going to have to say the movie more then likly wont do the book justice. Now if they want a challenge they should make Wheel of Time into a movie... would prob be the hardest task in movie history.. if not completly impossible to do. |

| Ender Series The rest of the series wasn't bad, it just wasn't Ender's game. The other 3 Ender books were a very decent scifi read, and I have to agree children of the Mind was very very good. The Bean books were very good too, and I have to insist that anyone who liked Ender's Game pick up Ender's Shadow. Its a retelling of Ender's Game but from Bean's point of view. You find out more about what makes Ender unique and its nice to see the view from someone who isn't the hero. The rest of the Bean novels are also fine, but they lack the entire space conflict that made the Ender novels great. The Bean books are about the fallout on Earth when all these military minds come home, good, but not great. |

Ender's Shadow is awesome, seeing Ender's Game events from the point of view of a completely soulless characters you absolutely can't relate to is a very neat experience. Shadow of the Hegemon is not bad because you're discovering the settings, and Achilles is a good villain to hate, but after that it starts losing its freshness and while they are indeed good books, they lack .. something, a spark. The last one especially feels a bit slow, and I hated how it left things unresolved (Randi's baby). The one thing that Card did right with the shadow series though is character development. Seeing Bean evolve from what he was in the first book, to what he end up being in the fourth in a very fluid and believable way is impressive. PS: Oh and repeating my love of Children of the Mind. Seriously you people that gave up on the Ender Series after Xenocide thinking that there was no point in reading any further, please pick up Children of the Mind. It's touching, deep and it brings closure to every single character in the series in a deeply satisfactory way. It's definitly up there with Ender's Game for me as my favourite Sci Fi book ever. | |

+15 Internets | How the fuck would they make the ending appeal to the general unwashed masses? If done right, fans of the books would ruin their pants at the movie. But the ending would not satisfy a large portion of non-fans I imagine=/ Similar to the ending of War of the Worlds. ACTION! EXCITEMENT! they fall over and die. WTF? edit: I never read any of the ones after Children. Do any of them follow the new Peter? That would interest me. |
