| Altered Carbon definitely picks up the pace soon. Stick with it Seventh. I read the first couple books of the Mars series you mentioned Magic. I enjoyed the first book for the most part but there definitely were slow parts. The second book from what I remember was just 1 big slow part and I never was able to bring myself to read the third book. Maybe it got better? I'd consider them a realistic kind of fantasy. (Just a trip a few years into the future with slightly better technology than we have now.) |

| i've heard pretty bad things about the rainbow mars series of books, but i've never read them for myself. I have read one short story of his, "A History of the 20th Century, with Illustrations", and it was pretty decent. Not really Science Fiction, but not bad. Didn't make me want to read more stuff by him though. Last edited by T-rex; 10-12-2009 at 07:29 PM.. |

+3 Internets | As a Firefly and Serenity fan, I would recommend C J Cherryh one of the finest writers SF has to offer! Her space opera titles covering The Company Wars illustrate a future deeply rooted in our present, detailing how huge Earth companies fail to deal with the time lag of its colonies from our own miner belts to far flung stars and the ensuing wars. These books cover many hundreds of years and are all stand alone titles but a good place to start would be : Hellburner and its sequel Heavy Time by C J Cherryh.

| I just finished 3 of Vernor Vinge's more popular books. A fire upon the deep A deepness in the sky Rainbow's End Enjoyed all 3 immensely. One particular technology that I like that he uses frequently is "wearable" computers with HUDs. Can't wait for us to actually get to that point in real life. |
