+14 Internets | Need help with the Drizzt books, with only a vague idea of where I left off. I don't know where else to ask this kind of question, so hopefully someone here can help me out. I read a bunch of the Drizzt books awhile ago, but never finished all of the published stuff, and wanted to pick them up again. I believe the last one I read had (man don't laugh, but I can barely remember the names.) The human assassin, name started with an A. And the bald dark elf with the floppy hat teaming up in the desert i think. I actually started to enjoy them as a duo, than most of the Drizzt stuff. Anyway, can anyone tell me what book that was? And what I should pick up next? |

| The Silent Blade I think is the name of the book you're on. Or it could be the Servent of the Shard. Unless you've bought the books in the the collectors editions in which case it would be Paths of Darkness. So the order you want to go is: The Silent Balde The Spine of the World Servert of the Shard Sea of Swords Next is the Hunter's Blades Trilogy The Thousand Orcs The Lone Drow The Two Swords I haven't ready the Hunter's Blade Trilogy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drizzt_Do'Urden - Literature |

| Thanks, Nazbuk. I'm starting the series and was going to read Icewind Dale first -- not even knowing Dale and Drow were in the same series. Will pick up the first series so I can read through these. ![]()

| Been reading for a few hours and almost done with the first book of the series. Rarely have I been this captivated reading a book; I had to literally force myself to quit reading so I could take a break and get some food. The amount of detail the author puts in is just so amazing.

| I've been thinking of checking these books out, the order is kind of confusing though. There's a "Legend of Drizzt" series that has things in chronological order, and it has The Dark Elf Trilogy first (his origin story). Then there's Icewind Dale, which was published first, but happens chronologically later. So is The Dark Elf Trilogy a prequel, and I should skip it and read Icewind Dale first? (You wouldn't want to start the Star Wars movies at #1...) Or is chronological the generally accepted "best order" now? |

+166 Internets | The later books are kinda bad. It's obvious he got pretty bored with "AND THEIR SWORDS CLANGED LIKE CLANGY GLANG CLANG" by the later half of the series. Also... Spoiler Alert, click show to read: The original two trilogies are really good, probably some of the best of Forgotten Realms outside of the Harpers series of books. Though to be honest it's all been pretty stale since the late 90's. It was less an evolving world and more of a bunch of people writing thinly veiled slash fanfic. Sorry for the derail. |

| I really enjoyed The Hunter's Blades trilogy. It was not a masterpiece by any means but the action was solid and the 3 book war was pretty entertaining. The thing I liked the most was Drizzt being alone for most of the trilogy. I don't mind the group but when Drizzt is alone he is more fierce and far more interesting to read. He needs to write more about Artemis Entreri. Let me rephrase that, he needs to write more about Artemis Entreri so long as its not a complete pile of shit like the last book. Books don't often bore me, even harder to do when I love 2 of the characters in the book (Arty and Jarlaxle) but god damn I struggled to finish that. The "cartman" ending pissed me off as well. |

+2 Internets | If you want to read another solid series from R.A. Salvatore you should pick up the Cleric Quintet series (if you can find it) I like the hero in this series more than Drizzt tbh |

The Promise of the Witch King is truly epic fantasy stuff. |
