Beginning's a bit slow, but it picks up very quickly. I LOVED Servant of the Shard when it was about Artemis and Jarlaxle. I wasn't too much of a fan of the other shit, but these two characters are just so fascinating.

I'll have to definitely check out Sellswords.

Alright I finished The Pirate King..it was ok. Ending was decent I guess but it wasn't even close to the Orc King.

So I go ahead and take a look about the Ghost King on Wikipedia and I see....

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Transitions (novel series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
The Ghost King will tie up unfinished story lines created at the start of the series, but will most likely leave some open for future installments. When the Spellplague ravages Faerūn, Drizzt and his companions are caught in the chaos. Seeking out the help of the priest Cadderly-the hero of the recently reissued series The Cleric Quintet-Drizzt finds himself facing his most powerful and elusive foe, the twisted Crenshinibon, the demonic crystal shard he believed had been destroyed years ago.
Sigh..he's bringing the damn shard back? Sigh..I shouldn't question the decision as the book isn't even out yet, but sigh...

Oh well...I'm off to the Sellswords now.

Just got done reading Road of the Patriarch and are there any books on Grandmaster Kane? What a badass that guy is. If he doesn't have his own book he definitely needs one.

Also I found this the other day surfing at work. A little short story for some backstory about how Guenhwyvar came to be.

http://www.wizards.com/books/downloads/Guenhwyvar.pdf

Edit: I did some googling and it looks like Kane is only in some modules and there's no books about him. Hopefully RA gets to write his monk book someday. Danica is a nice hold over till then I guess.

I remember reading that R.A. Salvatore REALLY wanted to make a series about a human monk but monks were not in the current D&D ruleset or some weird shit so he was forced to make The Cleric Quintet and made Danica to satisfy his monk cravings. A monk book would have been badfuckingass, especially Grandmaster Kane.

Nice find on the Guen backstory. Salvatore releases a mini story every so often in the "Realms of" books, along with several other authors and that Guen one was one of them. I went on eBay and bought them all just to read the stories I was missing out on, like the battle between Artemis and the shade, when Jarlaxle found the baker guy, Bruenors first notch, how Guen came to be, etc... You can find them on eBay for like a dollar each book or some ridiculous shit. Here is a list of all his short stories and the book they are in

I suggest you go into Barnes and Noble and read his short story "If Ever They Happen Upon My Lair" (in Dragons: World Afire, 2006) it involved the undead dragon that was in Promise of the Witch King.

btw Araxen, what'd you think of the Sellswords Trilogy?

Be forwarned this post will seem like spoilers to some...read at your own peril.

I liked the Sellswords alot. ROTP, I loved. The entire series actually turned me from detesting Artemis to liking him somewhat now. I'm not totally in love with him but I respect him now I guess you could say.

I really hated Artemis from the previous books and it's not the good kind of "I hate him" that a villain should have either but him wanting to fight Drizzt 24/7 really made me bored with the character, but those books put a different light on him with the help of Jaraxle and the flute. Towards the end you see the change is permanent and so maybe a new series on him wouldn't be so bad.

Can't forget Athrogate either..what a cool ass dwarf! I hope to read about someday when he meets Bruenor.

I hold out hope Drizzt is forced "to group" or get some alone time with Jaraxle for a few chapters in the Ghost King. I find the chemistry between the two pretty fascinating.

I also attached a preview I found of the Ghost King on WOTC's site the other day. It's the Prologue to the Ghost King.

Kane and his companions (the king, his wife, archmage, the ranger guy) were from some old DND modules back in the 80s, called the Bloodstone Lands, that RA Salvatore actually wrote the sourcebook for. Kane was like level 25 back then so no telling how powerful he would be now (in D&D that's like epic level, original Witch-King was level 30 that they defeated for example).

Yeah, I was reading on another forum from a google search about the modules he was in. Also they were bitching about how cocky he is and how they hate him because of it and I'm like wtf if your that kick ass you should expect somebody to be a little cocky especially since he's a Monk.

I'm on The Lone Drow. Drizzt assumes everyone's dead and the previous book, The Thousand Orcs, was a very good book. Much better than I expected. Hope the rest of this trilogy can keep up.

not only does it keep up but the 3rd book in that trilogy is the best one IMO.

Finished The Two Swords. Was cool. Did it mean "Two" by the Greatsword and Khazid'hea? It was a good ending. Was very surprised how quick the fight was.

Should I move onto Transitions or Sellswords?

Sellswords first..there is an appearance of a certain character/fight in the Pirate King that will give you some background on by reading the Sellswords first. I would have appreciated the fight alot more if I read the Sellswords first.

Bought Cleric Quintet, Sellswords (the final two), Pirate King, and Orc King. Will read Sellswords next then begin Transitions. Thanks for the advice. :-)

Of Salvatore, I've only ready Exile and Sojourn and found them to be boring, way too predictable and repetitive (Globe of darkness! Flashing scimitars! Victory!) However, I did love the Jarlaxle character (enough to use his name frequently online) and the Menzoberranzan stuff. I've considered picking up that series centering around him. Is the writing better than his original trilogy?

Homeland exile and sojourn are an origins story...so yeah they tend to be a tad boring.

What i like about salvatore is how he explains fights almost step by step. And drizzt alone tends to be pretty boring at times, but it's the people that surround him that make him more entertaining.

Jarlaxle and entreri (the sellswords) are like riggs and murtaugh. Only way more badass. They sort of HAVE to work together, get in deep shit and fight their asses out of it in sometimes a quite hilarious way. The sellswords just oozes sarcasm between the 2 main characters. Only thing missing from it is entreri yelling " i am getting too old for this shit" every 10 pages.

I think it's a very good read, hell i listen to the road of the patriarch audiobook at least twice a year.

Really? You thought Dark Elf trilogy was boring? I thought those three books were one of the better sets in the series, lol.

Almost done with Promise of the Witch-King. Very good read.
