but in this case, even though Thor is a magical entity:

Superman's weakness to Magic isn't total and by all areas. He doesn't turn to goo just because someone with magic based super strength hits him. What he blows at are spells of containment, warding, domination, etc.

Considering the ring was forged for Sauron, by Sauron, and that it does not make him invisible, I think we can assume the invisibility is an unexpected side effect of another creature wearing the ring (we know it works on Men and Hobbits at least, no idea about Dwarves or Elves..).
