Eragon is shit, Mormons are deeper in denial than my roommate's sexuality, JK Rowling is a somewhat talented lying shrew of a literary hack - did I miss anything or can we cap this thread off?

There's nothing inherently wrong with the Harry Potter books (to me). I tend to hate the fact they're so ridiculously goddamn successful when there are so many better writers with better books that don't even come close. I fully understand why though.

This lawsuit is fucking stupid. I hope some crazed fan kills her with a Quidditch club or something.

Lol. Here's an interesting quote from Paolini Himself:

Quote:
After the success of Eragon, critics and industry observers asked: Is Paolini the “next” J.K. Rowling? Paolini says the comparisons are “a great compliment, but I don’t write books like hers.”
Gee, I wonder what he meant by that!

She's brought reading to the masses. Harry Potter is the marijuana of literature, for better or worse. I have no problem with her.

Most people don't have a huge problem with her writing, it's her throwing her weight around and shit lately.

It's a bit funny that everybody highlights ender's game.. i personally preferred "enchantment" and would rate "pastwatch" as almost as good.

His latest genetic engineering book...I can't remember the name though....read like a Robin Cook medical thriller. It wasn't his best. However, Pastwatch kicked some ass.

Pastwatch was such a cool book. I'm not sure how he'd do it, but I wish he'd revisit that universe with another book.

Why wasn't it specifically said he was gay in the books? It's primarily a childrens book ffs, she doesn't go beyond mild kissing and parent/child relationships. If she goes into a character being gay, then the parent reading the book to a child has to stop and explain what 'gay' means. The parent may not be ready to tell the child about that kinda stuff, and she doesn't mention hetrosexual relationships much either.

And then the whole argument that Harry Potter has borrowed ideas from other authors so it's ok to copy/paste anything you want from Harry Potter?
There's a difference between being inspired by something and copy/paste.

JK Rowling writes stuff like this for charity so I don't have much sympathy with the internet guy leeching off her work. The authors should have asked permission to publish this book first.
I wonder how much of this book is copy/paste and how much origonal work?

And as much as I love Rincewind and the Night Watch, I had to stop reading Discworld books because the exact same characters repeat too often, exept they turn up with different names. There's always a cowardly guy, and a bossy woman and the wise elder... meh.
