Eragon is awful. Just pure shit. I tried to read it once and couldn't get through the second chapter, it was just so cliche and so terribly written, so halting and awkward, it made me wanna neck myself.

Well, the most legendary shit a man ever takes, usually takes hours to uncoil.

Vanity press. At least if it was his parents who owned a company, you could explain that they actually thought it was a winner.

Eragon sucked loads of ass. Generally I can see the positives in even the shittiest books or stories or whatever, but this book really has no redeeming qualities...it's poorly disguised fan fiction that isn't even written that well.

I mean, come on, if someone did a good job of writing a Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars story, I'm sure people could go 'that's awesome' either in a fanboy or an 'ironically cool' way. But Eragon...is not entertaining, not good.

Just a pile of vapid dogshit.

Just to clarify you got this completely wrong. Martin Harris's wife got some manuscript pages that had been translated. She stole them (highly moral thing to do here, btw), and then she and other unethical people decided that they would request that they be retranslated. Regardless of Joseph Smith's choice at this point, he would be condemned a liar, as he certainly couldn't and shouldn't trust people who would claim that the manuscript was different than the one he retranslated, when initially it had been illegally obtained. God forbade Joseph Smith to retranslate, but a similar history of the peoples in the manuscript was also in the Plates. Before you get all high and mighty, check the Bible out and look how many times the same story in the same period of time is written. Matthew...Mark...Luke...John...Let this be the end of it.

Beyond that, I'm sad I missed the Eragon slapfest. I hate that book with a passion. How a book so bad got so widely read and publicized...I've been 17 before, too, if I knew how retarded a book could be and still get tons of money I would've done it.

The second translation ended up being the egpytian book of the dead that was traced to some seller. But no smith claimed one needed these magical crystals to translate the original text. What can you expect from an angel named moron tho?

Completely wrong? I think I wrote lent instead of stolen, otherwise I was pretty close.

Everything I know about Mormons I learned from South Park.

On the plus side, they are the only ones who get into Heaven.

The sad thing is that I think alot of people seriously do use sources like South Park for their information and just run with it like they are informed. At least you assume so because of the insane amount of just flat out wrong info being passed around as "fact".

Actually it's intended for young adults, like 12-14. Touting Eragon as good literature is basically telling kids that his brick is good writing.

There are plenty of books out there that are targeted at the same age group, but are actually well written.

Hold the fuck up. I wasn't saying Eragon was well written. I was challenging the dismissive attitude a lot of people have towards children literature: that it can be badly written because it's 'only' children's lit or meant for 10 year olds or whatever.

I fucking hate Paolini and his shit.

Nooo, I understood that you were asking him a rhetorical question. I was responding to his original post, but I forgot to actually quote it, my bad.
