I could hardly read that stuff, gave up half way though the first link.
He's just another blind religious nut.

These people are only threatened by gay people because they are secretly gay themselves, much like extreme muslims make women cover up because they are secretly hyper jealeous/wanting to commit adultery/wanting to rape someone. Just sort yourself out and leave everyone else out of it.

Btw I seem to remember that his religion has quite a funny backstory. Didn't someone out the founder as a liar and his book as a fake, so he came up with some God related story to explain everything away?

Uh... no? Couldn't "prove" their scriptures to be any more fake/lie then any other scripture out there. I suppose you could argue that the books are fake/lie if you don't believe in the contents but that is something that has never and will never be proven in this life heh. There is no one alive today that was around when it was written so I don't see how anyone could "out" Smith about anything.

Honestly, as twattish as Rowling is, her arrogance and puffery doesn't bother me at all compared to Christopher Paolini.

You know, the kid who wrote the tragedy we know as Eragon.

The first time someone told me about Harry Potter I was like "Wow, that sounds exactly like Ender's Game."

Honestly I never really gave it much thought. Looking at them side by side now I can see it though. I don't know if I would call her a thief or anything but I would say she was at least "inspired" by the material.

I believe she just wants respect not so much from the fans but from the author community. Wants the be the Tolkien of this generation or something but that won't ever happen. The books were a fun read but a masterpiece they are not. Though I am sure opinions on that subject may differ

I think he was referring to how the scripture on the golden plates was in a language no one could understand, but God helped Smith translate it. Or it was something along those lines right?

Mormons get a bad wrap for stupid reasons though. Im not a big fan of theology but at least a good bit of mormons practice what they preach (minus the dreaded jack-mormons oh noes!) unlike my experiences with members of various other religions.

I seem to remember that his friend's wife managed to get the text he had translated from egyptian tablets buried in america, and said "If you are genuine, you'll be able to retranslate it". He did retranslate it, but the second translation was different. He explained it away with "Oh yeah God got mad at me for lending you the translation, so he destroyed everything and gave me a new, slightly different tablet." Isn't faith wonderful?

Yeah they do believe in the golden plates. Seeing as no one today was alive back then and only a few people are recorded as being present for said translation I don't see how you can prove it either way. It is a faith thing just like all religions.

The sad part about that story is people were ignorant and bitter enough to one day murder the guy just because they didn't agree with his views. The lesson to be learned is don't preach in the bible belt or you will end up with a angry mob outside your office

I believe it was more along the lines of certain scriptures were missing not different. God got annoyed at them being misplaced and withheld certain things or something along that line.

Either way unless we know exactly we shouldnt just be guessing heh. Its rude to those that really are mormon and would know the history better then we do. Bad information is what creates religious ignorance in the first place. It is the reason so many people think being mormon = having many wives which is not true. That is the creepy fuckers in texas

I was waiting for someone to bring up Eragon. Thank you. Any details on the author? I just know the book sucks, and reads like Star Wars.

The little bastard was 17 when Eragon was published. It's the most blatant rip of Starwars i've seen, with a bit of scenery changes and no lightsaber.

And it was because it was some great magical work of fiction that he got it published so early, his pops owned a publishing company or something to that effect.

Longer story short. I didn't get any for about a month, and she said she's enver going to do anal again

Basically Eragon is even more blatantly derivative than Harry Potter. Eragon's "epic tale" is basically Star Wars' plot line in Middle-earth's setting. Complete with liberal use of accent marks that the author put there just to make it look foreign.

Paolini's writing is the very definition of cliche'd fantasy purple prose.

I sound very bitter. Personally, I like to write. Some day I want to get published. Paolini's first novel that he wrote at 15 (zomg! Genius!) got published right away. Not because he's a sweet author, but because his parents owned a printing press and he basically bypassed all the manuscript submission/rejection letter process. He got picked up by a major publisher when they realized it was marketable to young adults.

For examples and careful analysis of Paolini's bullshit, check out Anti-Shur’tugal » News/Updates The Articles tab goes over step by step every reason he sucks.

That's just about his writing though. He is utterly arrogant. Let me see if I can dredge up some quotes...

Oh, this one even fits with the thread. He said one of the best things about reading the Harry Potter series was "watching Rowling grow as a writer." (One lame writer patronizing another lame writer).

The guy is a huge douche. Observe:

Quote:
"In my writing, I strive for a lyrical beauty somewhere between Tolkien at his best and Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf"
Quote:
" found that the story ideas I get tend to come to me as a single image or feeling. It's very hard to convey through just words, but it's usually like the end of a symphony or the end of a great movie when you're just left with a sense of awe and wonder. ..."
Quote:
"I envy you, Mr. Pullman, the ability to hear the beats in the sentences, the rhythm, because I happen to be rather tone deaf and I find it incredibly difficult to manipulate those types of rhythms. Alliteration and repetition are no problem, but beyond that I'm at a loss."
He is a self-admitted amateur.

Fuck Christopher Paolini.

Reads like everything. Star wars meets LOTR with a magic system exactly like Earthsea.

Edit: And for someone who writes crap it sure does take him a long time to do it.
