+1 Internets | Well, "The Prefect" by Alastair Reynolds just shipped. To be honest, I had forgot I ordered it until I received an e-mail from Amazon.com. The book I'm reading currently is "Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape our Decisions" by Dan Ariely. He is a social economist--along the lines of Steven Livett, author of "Freakanomics". This book is actually quite entertaining. He conducts one study about how people (he uses men in the study) behave one way in a "cold" state versus how they behave in an "aroused" state. There is a little bit of comic gold in there (the questions start out benign, but then quickly go to WTF). Rate the Attractiveness of Different Activities: Quote:

+2 Internets | Just got the first Dresden files book...will be getting more of these. Also bought Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, by James Patterson. Quick easy reading, and enjoyed it, so will be getting the rest (think there are 4 out so far...no idea how many he plans on writing) And finally, Night Watch. Wasnt too bad, and will get the other 2 in the series eventually.

| Bought a couple of books, Ghost Map by Steven Johnson - Documents the cholera epidemic that hit London in the 1850s. Flows really well and has a lot of great data put together. The Terror by Dan Simmons - Details the doomed expedition of Sir John Franklin in the 1840s. Franklin tried to find a new trade route to India by attempting to circumnavigate the Arctic, with predictable results. A Short History of Medicine by Frank Gonzalez-Crussi - Examines the development of medicine over recorded history, with a sociological/psychological take on it. Very interesting. |
