I loved Oryx and Crake, is The Blind Assassin worth picking up?

I'm not sure how it is on audio book...it might be ok listening to it, but reading it was tedious to the extreme. Too much description of how every little thing looked/smelled/felt/sounded, blah blah blah

Anyway....just finished Simple Genius by David Baldacci. Entertaining author.

All the mentions of Iain Banks' Culture series got me to pick up Consider Phlebas today. Not sure if I'll dive in to that right away, or continue the Bonehunters. Just started that, but not too far in.

Stop after the third. The rest after that are rehashed crap.

I wish there were more books about the Drow and their culture. Not neccessairly Drizzit or any specfic hero's but the culture. I'd love for some short stories A la world war Z style.

Word of warning: after reading Banks, going back to Erickson can be a difficult transition. The Culture books are very light, popcorn style reading. I took a break and read the entire set of Culture books in the time it woudl have taken me to read the latest Malazan book.

The other day I bought the The Appeal by John Grisham. I read it in 2 days and I really enjoyed it. So today I just bought A Darkness More Than Night, Lost Light and City of Bones all by Michael Connley. I read and enjoyed the first 6 books with Harry Bosch and these 3 are the next 3 books in the series so I can't wait to dive into them.

Erikson exemplifies popcorn reading.

I just bought Blood Meridian. 20 pages in...already quite intense.

The way Erikson weaves his stories together aren't really popcorn reading. You have to be more attentive or you'll miss too much for things to be coherent. His style is also much more wordy and descriptive, by that virtue making it a more difficult read. It's like reading a typical comic book, then reading The Brothers Karamazov.

The War of the Spider Queen series doesn't involve Drizzt, and it gives a bit of insight into Drow culture. The focus is on a group of Drow that "band together" (I use that term loosely) to find out what happened to Lloth, who mysteriously vanished.

It's a 6 book series, and it's pretty good...does fall apart a bit at the end, and I thought book 5 was written somewhat oddly (each book is by a different author), but it was entertaining nonetheless. All are available on paperback by now.
