I just bought Insomnia by Stephen King. I remember reading it when I was young and remember it being pretty good, so I thought I would check it out again. I never understood the hate King tends to get, he writes some entertaining stuff.

I was planning on buying Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk, but I'm not sure. I've bought all of his books, and while I liked Rant a lot, Snuff sucked ass. I didn't even finish it. I'm not one who likes to get burned, my free time is at a premium lately.

Stephen King's horror stuff is very meh to me, but I love his non horror stuff. Shawshank, Green Mile (and a lot of his other short story types), The Stand, and his book "On Writing" which is probably the best book about writing I've read.

Just picked up Gardens of the Moon. The Malazan thread sold me on this series, hopefully it delivers!

I picked up Underworld by Don DeLillo a couple days ago, I'm about 20 pages in and he's quite a master with his prose.

Just finished Amazon.com: The Graveyard Book: Neil Gaiman, Dave Mckean: Books. Excellent book.

Been listening to Amazon.com: Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, Book 1): Kim Harrison Aut, Marguerite Gavin: Books

On book 3 right now. If you liked Dresden chances are you will like this series to. The main character can piss you off sometimes with her ability to be a total idiot sometimes but it's bareable and the rest of the time the read is enjoyable.

Has anyone read Roberto Bolaņo's "2666"? It just became available on Audible, and I've been eyeballing it on the bookstore shelves for quite some time now. The audio version is close to 40 hours long, though, and before I embark upon such a sizable story, I wanted to check if anyone out there feels it's worth picking up. Any info would be greatly appreciated...

On 2666.

Bolano's '2666': The Best Book of 2008 - TIME

Time says its the best book of 2008. Various other reviews go as far as to say it redefines fiction.

I never pushed through the 4th part but I really enjoyed the beginning. Im having trouble trying to describe it. Its good though.

I havent used audio books before but the writing it what makes the book good. Sometimes sentences go for pages, that sort of thing. Im not sure if that would transfer to audio well. I re-read parts of it quite often because they just sorta pop. That kinda thing.

I think I'm going to give it a go. Now to just determine whether I want to go the audio route. I've found with audiobooks, that it can be hit or miss based solely on the abilities of the narrator. Some are horrendous, while others can create voices for characters that far exceed anything I could generate internally. I guess the biggest reason I'm caught up in the audio format is I can do double duty by listening to a book on my commute to work, and reading a different book at home.

Regardless, thanks for the scoop, Simas!

Just got Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson today. Gonna be a bit before I can start either of them as I just started The Bonehunters by Erikson yesterday and it's pretty thick. I've heard good things about all 3 so I'm pretty excited.

I was reading the star wars mmo thread and it struck me to buy a few novels, as I haven't read any SW books for atleast 12 years. And those were the teen books.

I picked up I, jedi and heir to the empire, based on a google search for the better books in the genre.

Question. I was reading the thread and someone pointed out the books shatterpoint, traitor and Luke skywalker and the shadows of mindor as great books, but they appear to be from a long series of stories. Should I read the 13 prior books before trying those or is it possible those books stand on their own?

In a continuation of my Stephen King phase, or whatever, I bought The Stand. I've never read it but virtually everyone I know loves ti so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I bought The Wizard of Oz for my daughter. I'm trying to get a good collection of children/young reader books going for her. She's only 3 months old, so I figure I have time to get a few.
