I just finished this and I thought it was 'ok'. I thought the atmosphere of the book was really interesting, but two things really bothered me: one, how they had to include famous people form the period who are now doing whacky new crazy things (Marx, Darwin), and the different sections seemed really obviously written by the two different authors.

| Cleric Quintent by R.A. Salvatore, it's ok so far. 5 books in 1 big paperback w/ large print is easy on my eyes. It's not as good as anything with Drizzt so far but I always enjoy Salvatore's work and he doesn't have another book in the Drizzt series out until Oct : /.

I read "Stealing Light" by Gary Gibson while travelling the skies. Sloppy ending and two dimensional characters made it annoying, with a lot of interesting characters/races brought up but not explored while he tried to play space opera. Interesting premise though. Evidence of a sloppy rushed ending is this quote from near the end of the book: Person1 reached out almost lovingly and cradled the surprised man's face in his hands.

Just finished "Matter" by Iain Banks which of course is a "Culture" novel. I'd never even heard of him or the Culture series until my wife brought it home for me. Total chance encounter but I ended up liking it pretty well although it took awhile to get off the ground. Just bought: In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker. Heard alot of good things about "The Company" series of novels and I am currently reading "The Anvil of the World" which is also by Kage Baker but not in "The Company" series. Very much enjoying her writing style so far.

Two books I'm throwing out there (nice forum btw) which are good summer reading: Kissinger's 'Does America need a foreign policy' has been pretty interesting in lieu of Obama's recent dialogues in europe. Bookstabber's 'A demon of our own design', which is the tale of a quant jock / risk manager during the apocalyptic times of 1980.
