Looks like it's a good book. Scimmed through the first couple days of release, and then skipped because I didn't want to read any potential spoilers.

I think I'll start reading these books again in about a year. It'll take me almost a year to read the whole series with the time I have. Once I'm done the last book should be out.

But your Jordan bashing merit badge has been noted.
I think you are reading more into that than I intended - I liked that section of the book, but it was the only piece in it that didn't progress the plot at all in a very large, very focused book, leading to my thinking that it may have been included because it was already written.

It's also possible it was also included just to have Matt do something, but that seems odd in a work that's trying to wrap things up.

I have to agree that the final Matt sections in that town seemed kind of pointless. Sanderson has stated that he tried his best to follow Jordan's wishes and get everything down into one book - so why write that part up unless it was something that Jordan had intended to include?

About Callandor...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Rand doesn't want to use it because he doesn't want to be in controlled by anyone. What about Elayne and Avienda? Both can use the one source, and both would do anything for him. Doesn't mean that that's the 3 become one answer, but that'd be a safe way of using it. The 3 become one thing will probably have something to do with the Elayne, Avienda, and Min. though I don't know what.

The ending very much surprised me, it blew away a theory I had had for years about how it would finish.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I had thought for a long time they would get around the Rand dying part by having Lews Therin in his head. Somehow the final battle would have had Lews "doing something that turns the tide and wins the battle but at the cost of his conciousness finally being lost forever" and that being classed as the death to satisfy the viewings/prophecies etc and Rand actually gets to live at the end, happily ever after.

Without any other evidence to support it now, I guess Rand is going to be brown bread by the very end!

I ended up reading the second half in one lump, just couldn't put it down. No fucking clue why though, 2011 before we get to the proper end, I didn't really need to rush

Edit - negged for "cry baby mode" ? I thought the book forum was immune to most of the fuckwits that troll mmorpg general, I guess not. Oh well, shame people who write those don't have the braincells to rub together to generate a relevant response instead of a random load of nonsense that doesnt relate to what I said.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
"Blood on the rocks" is assumed to mean he'll die, but it doesn't have to mean that for sure. I strongly suspect he'll end up pulling a Morgase and allowing the world to believe he's dead, so he can go back to living a normal, quiet life. With three hot wives.

Or he'll shed a single tear of blood, which shall land on a pebble some guy carried from Shayolgul to wherever Rand retired, 40 years later.

Brandon Sanderson Blog: #1

#1 on best sellers list, knocking off Dan Brown. Sold more in first week than Knife of Dreams did.

Good for Brandon.

Well deserved by Sanderson. I'll definitely have to read his own stuff now when I get the chance.

His original work is pretty good. Warbreaker and the first Mistborn book are worth a look at least.

I'm pretty sure Rand is going to die (with the help of Alivia at the very least). It seems to me to be somewhat implied that he'll NEED to die for some reason (perhaps being subverted finally by the shadow, or perhaps taking down Moridin somehow by doing so).

One of his answers was 'To live, you must die' or some such after all.

I think after he dies, he'll be brought back, at least for a short time by the horn. Waaay back in the 2nd book it was strongly implied that the Dragon was one of those heroes.
