The Best American Nonrequired Reading

This is a collection of short fiction and non-fiction stories, edited by Dave Eggers, with an introduction by Sufjan Stevens.

The works selected for this collection were decided upon by San Francisco Bay Area high school students. There are some really powerful short stories, and wonderful poetry to be found in this book.

Don't expect to walk away happy if you choose to read anything inside, but it's the perfect thing (I've found) to read a selection from to someone you care for. Go outside, get coffee, smoke cigarettes, and sit under a street lamp.

I'd have to say the ONLY thing i liked about this, was this one section:

It polled all the leading intellectuals in america with the question:

"I believe this, but I cannt prove it"

Some really really interesting things came up.

Otherwise it was a bunch of useless political shit, with a few good short stories interjected. The comics were terrible, the non-fiction stuff was mediocre at best.

It's good toilet reading maybe, and an ok gift. If you want to get people a nice gift get them the grouphug.us book, i got that for a few people last year and they loved it.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it! The book definitely isn't for everyone.
