Brisingr

Paolini's third book was released this week and I have started reading it. The first two Eragon (thread) and Eldest were lackluster at best, but at the time, they were the only English language books I had not yet read in my local bookstore in Japan. Brisignr is filled with the same dull, shallow writing as the first two, but I am eager to finish it to put the series to rest. I am slightly fearful, however, as the website used to read The Inheritance Trilogy and now says "Cycle" in place of Trilogy. I am afraid he might continue writing.

Anyone else reading this as well? Anyone else feel the need to finish despite not really enjoying it?

I bought it but haven't read it yet. I'm reading through the first two books again. I'm one of the few in the world that likes the books. I don't read many books so that has alot to do with it and I'm a sucker for magic and dragons.

Brisingr became too long so he had to split it up and make a fourth book. He sent an email out on his mailing list earlier this year that said he was splitting up the 3rd book.

I bought this but I also haven't read it yet. I loved Eragon but I didn't like Eldest. I read 3/4 of the book and couldn't make it through.

I'm hoping Brisingr isn't as horrible as Eldest was.

You skipped the only part of Eldest worth reading, Cuppy.

I loved the first book, but I couldn't stomach through the second one. It was very boring and difficult just to read.

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing. I may give it another shot before reading Brisingr, but the synopsis at the beginning of Brisingr is probably a far wiser decision than trying to plod my way through Eldest again...

i liked all 3, eragon had some fun moments and some terribad moments. eldest had its slow/boring parts, but overall i liked it because it gave you a lot of room for imagination, the elves forest was kinda massive in that regard. Brisingr was along the same lines in my opinion, a lot of fun parts and some parts, but overall deffinitely worth the read.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
the hunting of the ra'zac, finding out why galbotrix is as strong as he is, the surprising deaths, the battle descriptions, and another shade emerging we're very intriguing in my oppinion

cant wait for book 4, but at the rate its going it'll probably be after ww3 when its released

Is there a book 4? I thought it was the Inheritance Trilogy?

Edit: Apparently that little douchebag kid changed it to the Inheritance Cycle. Oh well.

He was on the Today show a week or so ago and he said that he couldn't do a trilogy because the third book would've been roughly 2,000 pages long. This way, both books will be around 800 pages, or so. (At least, that's what he said)

The second book was so fucking disappointing. I thought that the first half or even two thirds of it was absolutely marvelous, it really seemed like he had suddenly come up with some original material. Then I got to the later portion of the book, and it was even more plagiarized, pathetic, unoriginal bullshit than the first book.

I'm probably still going to buy Brisingr, but I'm definitely waiting for this pile of shit to be paperback.

Dog-Eared -> Stupid sentences in Brisingr

Highlight:

Quote:
"He was laying on his back, legs folded at the knees, stretching his thighs after running further and with more weight than he ever had before--when the loud, liquid, rumble erupted from his innards." (p. 72)

That link rocks.

I'm about 1/4 of the way in. Not bored, not excited about it either. Seems a bit better than Eldest at least. Lots of hilarious quotes in it (and not in a good way..)

Almost done with it myself.

I can definately say his inability to use the word 'red', only to sub in the word 'ruby' is definately annoying as hell. Aside from that, the writing is what i've come to expect from this kid, dull but not unreadable. One thing that really irks me the most, is when he'll talk about something in the book, but leave out the specifics. See: true names - He never actually comes out and says anyone's true name even when the character has made it known that he's aware of someone's true name, and even when the character SAYS the name he doesn't actually put it into the story. One of those, "we'll leave it up to the reader to make up their own word" sort of things, and although I might not mind something like this from an experienced author, it just works as a cop-out due to a lack of ability with this kid.

All in all though, nothing really seems to 'happen' in this book. It's either fun time at the Varden camp or fun time at the Dwarf village, to fun time at the Elven forest with a skirmish or two thrown in there somewhere. It's sad when the best parts of the book so far are the Roran subplots, cause in those chapters I can usually expect to read about a decent brawl with some actual blood and carnage.

Roran is by far a better character than Eragon. And the true name thing pisses me off.
