+1 Internets | I stumbled across a fantastic website today in which I started a private community for the discussing, reading, and downloading of a large amount of ebooks, personal work, etc. I've been reading these boards for years and would love to give something back to you all. I am in the process of uploading roughly 300 sci-fi and fantasy pdf's to the community so I might start things off at a run. As we gain people I'll be assigning the more productive members to moderator type positions. There will be a low tolerance for rudeness and general fuckery towards members of course. Thanks for reading all. Hope to see you in the Athenaeum! I'm not sure if the invite emails are sending out properly, so here is the direct link. Scribd The website works great. Every uploaded file is offered in PDF, RTF, DOC formats for reading and or downloading. It also gives you the option of listening to the book (however it takes a long time to convert it to an audio format after it's uploaded. Currently we have 472 books posted (primarily sci-fi and fantasy, with some horror thrown in). All of the current popular series are there! Last edited by Kerhunge; 10-10-2007 at 10:35 AM.. |

| There's been a couple of these site announcements so far, do they not fall under 'advertising'? I mean it's cool and all---hell if you can automate ordering out of print/international books that would be great, but I know people have gotten in trouble for it. |

+1 Internets | errr, well. it's not entirely legal I'll admit. Much of the stuff I have has been scanned or bought from ebook. It looks like the site works pretty well although they're doing some maintenance to make it faster. Out of the 250ish books I uploaded only 57 made it on this run, but it should work better when i don't put them on 100+ at a time heh. Oh, and I have a decent amount of Arthur and Isaac, but I'm still in the process of adding them. Had to work till now =p |

+1 Internets | Currently I'm uploading 1-30 of the Discworld series by terry pratchet. It does take some time to get stuff put up (there is a queue) so I will keep folks informed when I have more stuff. Update: around 20 Isaac Asimov books up now. Still figuring out all the kinks. I'll keep adding though=p Update: Steven Brust - Vlad Taltos 1-10 up, Dark Tower 1-7 also Last edited by Kerhunge; 09-27-2007 at 11:05 PM.. |

| I'd be interested in something like this, still trying to find a decent portable electronic book reader. I usually buy a lot of real books a year, and am comfortable reading them, and have since I was a kid, I'm not yet sold on the idea of 100% electronic books :/ Any suggestions?

+1 Internets | No requirements. I'll only be looking at submissions in relation to promoting to moderators. So other than no porn and don't be a dick you can do what you want! =) Other than PDA's the only dedicated Ebook reader with any fanfaire is the Sony Reader. It's about 300 bucks though (less if you sign up for the sony credit card or whatnot). If I wasn't having to save for a trip for two to hawaii I'd probably pick one up. I have a large collection of paperbacks, but I would love to have something I can take with me to work, etc. There are currently 169 books uploaded. The queues to upload have been rather long the last two days, so the rest of Neil Gaiman, Brian Lumley, George Martin: Wildcards/ASoIaF, etc are still waiting to go through. I imagine it will jump to the near 200's once everything pushes through. Last edited by Kerhunge; 10-01-2007 at 07:45 AM.. |
