All of the above are required.

A few other ones I liked (sorta kinda maybe) were,

100 Bullets,
The Walking Dead

and Y:The Last Man.

These are not REQUIRED reading, but I would at least check em out.

EDIT-Supreme Power has taken a fucking nose dive straight into Shitown. Fuck that crap. IMHO.

Same as Alias -> Pulse. Marvel needs to stop taking good shit off MAX thinking it will sell more copies on Knights. The reason the books are so good on MAX is because of the things the writers can get away with there. Squadron Supreme wasn't terrible from issue 1 like Pulse, but it didn't take long.

And I second The Walking Dead recommendation. I couldn't remember the writer's name when I was making my list up there and ended up forgetting about it completely. I really like the long-term take on the traditional George Romero zombie flick plot that they have going. Even after 35 issues though, I'm still wishing it was colored.

Robert Kirkman is the writer.

I actually like the black and white. I got spoiled on Darick Robertson so the black and white is a good change from bland color.

If you want a quirky fun book then I would suggest Boneyard. Been reading it the past few years and it has always been enjoyable.

If you have ever liked DC and aren't some canon junkie asshole I'd highly suggest Kingdom Come. Think you can get the full thing for like 12$ on Amazon, or 75$ for the Absolute hardcover edition. Future DC America where heroes are running rampant and the old school Justice League comes back to clean house. It's really well done and the art is by Alex Ross. So you'll either love or hate it. I think everything he does is fucking gorgeous. Just avoid the follow up story thing "The Kingdom". Utter shit.

Even when he's pretty much just fucking around.

Dark Knight Returns already suggested, I'd only go for the "follow up" Dark Knight Strikes Again if your thirst for Batman is totally unquenched. Does not compare.

Marvel Zombies 1-5 is available in a collection. Pretty cheap. Fun little stupid alternate world run. Robert Kirkman writing. Virus has turned almost everyone on Earth into zombies, so of course the zombie heroes are the last ones left standing. Goes from there.

Alex Ross art below.

Well, none of the Louisville libraries have the first Preacher novel. I still haven't finished Sandman though so I guess I'll get on that. For those that have followed up on the Books of Magic written by Gaiman, do I need to read the comics to understand the books and/or which line is worth it?

The 4 part Books of Magic special starts the series. It begins with Tim not knowing anything about magic and than being confronted by these 4 guys to teach him.

After that is the main 75 part series starting with the graphic novel, "bindings."

After that was a 25 part series where Tim is a young adult, but I found only the first 4-5 comics of that to be worth reading. The rest of it sucked imo.

I mentioned in another thread, pick up Aliens: Tribes. It's not your typical format for graphic novels, more like a novel with paintings every few pages, but it is very very good. Put out by Dark Horse sometime in the 90s.

And read Cerebus. ALL 300 pages. It's good.

Oh and read Bone, don't know if it's been mentioned, Jeff Smith is really just amazing. It's not in the same vein as Sin City but it's some of the best comic work done ever in my opinion.

Bone, Cerberus, and Concrete were recommended heavily in a previous thread.

Yeah, the only part of that I've read is the 4 part at the beginning. So I guess the next 75 are worth reading?

Very much so. See for yourself. Get a hold of "bindings." It's one of the best of the series. If you don't like it, you probably won't like the rest.

So I requested Bindings from the local library system. Found out that it was one of the childrens books. Apparently they have the miniseries, Reckonings, Transformations, Girl in the Box, and Death after Death. And the Children's crusade. So they don't have the first two (Bindings and Summonings), or the Burning Girl. Awesome.

Oh well, there's no shortage of Sandman, which I still have to finish. Thanks for the recommendations.
