Title request perhaps

If you guys don't mind, I know some of the people around here are pretty good at figuring these things out or perhaps someone knows of the book, I read like 95% of this book about 5 years ago, then come to find out the final 2-3 chapters of the book were torn out. I quit that job and left the book there.

Anyway, the few things I can remember about the book are, first off, there is a dragon 'colony' of sorts, and somehow there is a girl that kind of gets adopted by one of the dragons there, and the mother dragon has her own dragon kid, and because of the girl, the dragon kid kinda has a fued going with another dragon kid in the colony. Which leads to the girl getting thrown out of the colony because she's the base of the problem.

Another thing, which may have happened before or after that particular part, is the girl ends up being a concubine, though I don't remember anything but that...

And, finally toward the end of the book the Mother dragon comes and helps out the girl again when she is in trouble.

Basically the title had the word 'dragon' in it someplace I am nearly certain, but I've searched on and off for about 3 years, to no avail.

It would be ridiculously awesome if someone here knew of the book and could help me out with a title, or author.... or basically anything that would help hehe.

Sounds like a Dragon Riders of Pern book, but I don't remember that one specifically. There are quite a few Pern books.

I looked at all the books I could find in the pern series, it looks like a real solid possibility, I may just not remember enough about the book to actually place which one it is...

Thanks for the info though, It may provide to be the missing link in my quest !

I'm 99% sure I've read that book. Did it have a plump red dragon that was sort of "lounging" sideways on the cover? Did it have sort of "cuter" look than your typical dragon?

Bro, it's been wayyy too long for me to remember hehe, I do think it had a red dragon on the cover though, but no detail comes to mind at all.

You could be right, I just can't confirm it at all.

This thread actually forced me out of seriously intense lurking to post. Pretty certain that the book you're thinking of is Elvenbane, by the very odd duo-authors Andre Norton and...Mercedes Lackey.

Amazon.com: Elvenbane (Halfblood Chronicles): Books: Andre Norton,Mercedes Lackey

Well since you helped this guy maybe you guys can help me.

The plot of the book went basically something similiar to this. A new kid moves into town and goes to school and thinks its pretty boring till he finds a secret society that is battling a great evil that haunts the town. Each member has something special that will contribute to breaking the curse but the new kid doesnt. As he learns more he finds out the principal is playing a part in the whole grand evil scheme and is eventually summoned to his office. He steals a golden disk which I think was about the size of a quarter from the principals desk and it becomes his weapon I guess you could say. Dont remember much else after that but they do find the source of evil comeing from the slaughter house that was a few miles outside of town and when they use their weapons there the grounds starts spewing blood out of the ground and you never see the principal again.

It was a really strange book but for the love of me I cannot remember the name. Tried looking up the name Golden Disk but that wasnt it. Any help be much appreciated.

P.S. Also remember on the cover you see the kid holding the disk in his hand while hes kneeling on the ground. Kinda lit by a campfire.

Elvenborn/Elvenblood by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey. thats gotta be it 100%

oops I didnt see someone else already guessed it. There were 3 books to this series, I rather liked them, but I never did get around to reading the third book, since it took so much longer to be published.
