Tom Clancy - John Clark/Rainbow Six Novels...

I've read Rainbow Six and Without Remorse and liked them both quite a bit. I am searching around amazon for more Clancy books starring John Clark, but most of them focus mainly on Jack Ryan, who hasn't been that cool to me. I am thinking of ordering Debt of Honor and Cardinal of the Kremlin, since those seem to feature Clark more.

Anyone hear read any of these, or others, and can suggest? Or any other Clancy book that is good. I'm not opposed to Jack Ryan only books, but I really love the John Clark character and what to read more of his stories.

Most of Tom Clancy with Jack Ryan / John Clark is extremely kick ass. Some people are turned off by his dense style, but as a former military person I love reading it. I never get tired of seeing POTUS or CINC-WEST in capital letters 5 or 6 times on the same page, hehe.

Those two you've read are the only two major John Clark novels. The rest of them, though, if you have time to read 1000 page stories, are pretty kick ass. In chronological order, they are:

Hunt for Red October (didn't like this one because it was mostly naval stuff)
Patriot Games (don't remember reading this one)
Cardinal of the Kremlin (don't remember reading this one either, but all the rest of them refer to stuff that happened in this one at least once if I recall)
Sum of All Fears
Without Remorse
Debt of Honor (this is a REALLY good one, especially the ending. Makes you think, also has a good bit of Clark in it)
Executive Orders (more Clark)
Bear and the Dragon (not so much in the way of Clark, but REALLY good if you like tanks and attack helicopters, hehe. Hands down my favorite of the bunch)
Teeth of the Tiger (haven't read this one yet but it continues and I think ends Jack Ryan and introduces his successors)

Sum of All Fears ---> Debt of Honor ---> Executive Orders ---->Bear and the Dragon make for a fricking excellent read, especially if you do them in that order so it all makes sense.

Also, Red Storm Rising is a really damn good story, but it is set out of the 'Jack Ryan/John Clark' universe and just serves to answer the question the US Military was worried about for years: what would have happened if Russia really DID come pouring through the Fulda Gap and start war in Europe? Pretty neat, again especially if you are a fan of tanks.

Cardinal of the Kremlin is a VERY good read.

I am not that much into the Clancy type tales, but I read it all in one sitting last X-mas.

I used to be big into Clancy as well. A somewhat similar author is Dale Brown, although he's a far worse writer and the action mostly focuses on airplanes. But I've loved that shit since I saw Top Gun when I was like 6, so I'm cool with that.

Clark was always my second favorite character, right after Ding Chavez. The chrono list above failed to mention Clear and Present Danger, which is an awesome book that has a fair amount of Clark, and focuses a lot on a covert team of soldiers in Columbia. It's a lot better than the movie.

But yeah, most of the rest of the books other than R6 and Remorse don't have much about Clark in them. Which is a shame, cause the dude is such a badass.

That book, along with Dale Brown's "Storming Heaven" should have been required reading at the White House in the aftermath of 9/11, especially for officials saying "no one expected someone to use airplanes as flying bombs."

Ah, hell, can't believe I forgot Clear and Present Danger, a really damn good story that also makes you think, with a good bit of Ding and Clark too. That comes between Cardinal of the Kremlin and Sum of All Fears. Thanks Eomer!
