Mystery/Horror recommendations for World of Darkness campagin

Here's the deal : I'm probably going to be running some World of Darkness P&P games and would like some inspiration. The perfect book(s) would rely less on straight action/carnage and much more on psychological tension/suspense and be set in the present if at all possible.

For the game, I want the desire to learn what is going on to be their true drive, not just to become stronger. Also, no matter how powerful their characters, I want them to consistently be afraid/paranoid/cautious. I want them to bug me after games with "Ok, out of game... what in the hell is going on" type questions (which I cruelly will not answer.)

Suggestions?

Anne Rice stuff? I really liked Memnoch. She gets really into Lestat's psyche.

It might be Vamp + Werewolf, or just Vampire. All depends on what "breed" everyone wants to play. We'll be playing in the new WoD; ie, WW the Forsaken, Vampire the Requiem, etc. I'm still reading the new rule books, and I'm going to have my veterans read at least 1 rule book, so I'll have some time to "research."

I really liked Interview (the book,) but I would file that more under horror/drama. What I'm looking for is more mind-fuck type stuff, ie; "The call is coming from inside the house," Bruce Willis in 6th Sense, or Nicole Kidman in The Others. Another example, one story element I was going to use was the group was going to find a hand written note which indicated Bad Things(tm,) such as plans to off some vampires that meet the description of most of the party. One of the members (who isn't referenced in the note) would notice the handwriting matched perfectly with his own, though he would have no knowledge of ever having written it. Things like that.

Yah, someone suggested that to me today. Any ones in particular? Amazon.com: The Best of H. P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre: Books: H.P. Lovecraft,Robert Bloch maybe?

Rats in the Walls is just about the best of Lovecraft for ambiance. Should be able to pick it up in any decent compilation of his work.

I bought the book I linked and reading through it now. Pretty good so far. I have to admit I'm finding a bit of it predictable. I don't think it's his fault, however. I think a lot of it is because his ideas have beenused so many times after he wrote it (like the twist in "The Outsider") that now it's hard to not see what's coming.

I'll look into that too. Thanks.

What about Stephen King? I've always heard his Dark Tower line was good, but is it in the same vein (physiological thriller/suspense/horror?) The stuff of his that I've read was good (Langoliers (sp), Secret Window Secret Garden, the one with the Vampire on the plane) but not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks again for the info.
