Warcraft Lore Books

Hello all!

I recently picked up the World of Warcraft Archive book. It contains the first four books (I believe) in the WoW lore. Day of the Dragon, Lord of the Clans, The Last Guardian, and Of Blood and Honor. I started reading it and I'm loving the first one so far. It may not be fabulous literature, but the story is intriguing to me. I've always been interested in the Warcraft lore, but never really got into it because I was wrapped up in Everquest lore =P

I'm wondering if anyone else has read these books? And after I finish these four novels, should go on to the War of the Ancients trilogy or the Sunwell Trilogy? I don't really understand the order, but I'd like to read everything as chronologically as possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

None of the books are well written, they're all 'pulp' fantasy, but the stories are mildly entertaining. The War of the Ancients trilogy is far, far better than anything else.

Technically speaking, War of The Ancients trilogy comes last since it involves characters that time travel to the war (Which makes the story a little confusing).

What is of Blood and Honor? I never read that one nore have I heard of it.

War of the Ancients is sort of a sequel to Day of the Dragon, in that it involves the same main characters (Krasus and Rhonin, guest starring Veressa Windrunner!). I never read Lord of the Clans, so I dunno if Broxigar is in that.

Anyways, the WotA trilogy is my favorite out of the WC books (it is also a backdrop for the Caverns of Time instance in many ways). It basically answers many long standing questions such as the origin of the Naga and Satyrs, the Emerald Dream, how Illidan became a Demon Hunter, the plan of the Burning Legion, why the Black Dragon flight went insane/evil, and even the Old Gods and their plans for Azeroth. It even gives you background to lore that you may have seen in WoW but just didnt recognize as being anything. For instance, Ravencrest Monument in Azshara will mean alot more to you once you understand who Ravencrest actually was in WC history.

I've read Day of the Dragon and was pleasantly surprised by the nice lore tidbits. As I understand it WotA was written primarily to connect or retcon a lot of the WC lore with WoW.

WC lore is a lot more rewarding in the sense you actually find out what's going on. EQ lore started out pretty good but later felt like the story was eventually over simplified killing off many of the sub-plots. I never did find out what happened with the whole FV thing after velious.

I believe that book deals with Tirion Fordring and an orc whose name escapes my mind.

It's the ill fated Warcraft Adventures turned into a book. I.e. The story of Thrall

Note: I think those two books were written by Metzen himself; lore straight from the horse's mouth.

Oh no way. My post says "As soon as I'm done with what I'm reading now I will start it." I am currently reading the WC Lore book, A Song of Ice and Fire is next =)

Yup. Best retcon ever made. But still retcon, and that's too bad.

Lord of the Clans is by far the best one. The rest arent very good, unless you're really hungry for Warcraft lore.

How is that retcon? Sounds to me like elaboration.

Both Starcraft novels I've read were not very good (Liberty's Crusade and something else).

I'd love to hear of a good SC novel.
