Warhammer 40,000 Novels

Anyone read these?

I'm a huge fan of the WH40K lore, tabletop, and DoW games, but I've never tried to get into any of the novels. By chance the guy who sits next to me at work is the exact opposite; no interest in the game, but has just about every novel ever made. He loaned me Let The Galaxy Burn, a 750+ page book collecting all the Imperium related short stories the Black Library has published, and I'm about 1/3rd of the way through the loving it. There's so much atmosphere and backstory these stories have that the tabletop game or bits of lore in the codexes just can't express.

I want to start reading them all, but the sheer number of books they have out is kind of daunting. Hell, he told me they've just started a nine book series that completely catalogs the Horus Heresy.

I recommend The Eisenhorn trilogy by Dan Abnett. It's the best of what I've read so far.

The Horus Heresy books are okay so far.

Most of the other stuff is pulp.

Bit of a thread necromancy, sorry. Anyway, just started reading the Eisenhorn series by Dan Abnett.. it's really good if you don't mind the detective story elements to it. If anyone is really into the lore/atmosphere of the 40k universe I recommend this series highly.

I read Ravenor a couple months back. It starts off a bit slow but really gets going after a bit and I really really enjoyed the last half of the book. I'd recommend it if you find psyker stuff interesting. It's the first in a 3 book series but I haven't gotten around to reading the second and third. I just ordered them from amazon yesterday.

Ultramarines omnibus is good, same with the Caiphas Cain. And the Horus Heresy is really good also. Space Wolves, the fantasy with Gotrek and Felix.

On a side note I just started getting back into the game again after about 15 years. At least to the point of painting the figures and models, not sure if I will play the game again or not.

I read the first novel of the Darkblade series about 6 months ago, and just ordered the other 4 books in the series (it stops at 5 I believe) from amazon.

It's not 40k but Warhammer fantasy. The whole concept of the main character (a dark elf) being really freaking evil and scheming is a nice change for me. If you dig the Warhammer world, I would recommend checking it out.

I love abnett. eisenhorn, ravenor, and the ghost series are some of my favorite books.

I JUST bought the latest darkblade book. that series really makes you realize how fucked up the darkelves are in warhammer. I'm really glad the main character isn't a good guy

I really enjoyed the Eisenhorn series by Dan Abnett, also his Horus Heresy novel was great.

I bought the Gaunts Ghosts series and have enjoyed them quite a bit so far. Quick easy reading but entertaining and you really like the characters. I'd suggest getting them if you're after some Imperial Guard stories.

Horus Heresy series starts off good then gets wtf at some parts.

Would suggest Lord of the Night, was the best 40k novel I've read yet. The books about Ragnar Blackmane are very interesting but the character seems a bit like Elminister/Drizzt.

inquisition war (or trilogoy however you want to label it) was ok, first part i thought was pretty badass, part 2 good but not quite as great, worse is part 3 where it looks like the author just kinda gave up and said "i need to end the story now"

Another vote for the Darkblade series. I finished the first book and ordered the rest. I really dig the evil main character and how cruel they DE's are in Warhammer.

The oldschool ian watson books are far better then the newer ones. Eisenhorn while a good book just didnt seem very Warhammer ish to me...he had a lightsabre and deflected bullets with it.

Horus Heresy semi-ftw, it is in kind of a lull atm but it will pick up again as the fighting begins to move to Terra, and the opening 5 were pretty good (with differing levels of opinion). Personal favorite is Fulgrim, mostly cause it is a sad fucking story to see what happened to the Emperor's Children.
