| National Novel Writing Month For those unaware that November is National Novel Writing Month: www.nanowrimo.org The short version is that you're supposed to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. They emphasize word quantity as opposed to quality of your writing, apparently as a means of helping un-practiced/dedicated/motivated writers to become more prolific. I found out about this a little late too, and I'm not even sure if I have the time to dedicate to it even if I had heard of it a month ago. I am curious to know if anyone else is participating, or if you have friends that are. I bet there's more than a few stories that come out of this that are actually quite good. There were almost 10,000 people that completed the task last year. I'm also wondering if this unofficially makes December National Novel Editing Month. ![]() |

| I've actually tried it before. This is my third year doing it. First year, I "won" it, last year had some trouble and wussed out at 30K. I'd highly recommend it for aspiring novelists - it forces you to ignore your inner editor and get words on paper. The key - write 2K words a day. This isn't really that bad if you split it up into 30 minute writing sprees. Also, if you haven't started yet, no worries. See if you can hit 35K or something. |
